Hell is just a literary idea that got way outta hand. Many religions have a "hell"-type place, but it's just when people lead bad lives and they get themselves into trouble because they don't want to be happy. When they work out their karmic debts, they realize that they can be happy and they go to heaven or get reincarnated or whatever. I guess if you chose to be evil and unhappy, you could do it for the rest of time, but I don't think God punishes you. More like you punish yourself through bad karma.
Religions have a lot in common in most cases, but somehow, every one of them says, "We're the only one." How can that be? I think Christ is a great example, but I'd never say it's his way or hell. There are good people out there who do good things based on many good ideas, not just Christianity.
If you take out the idea of hell, a lot of the "Christian" stuff falls away. You don't have to witness or persecute those of other faiths. You don't have to worry about spreading the doctrines of Jesus around the world. You can just focus on what Christ was all about--love, helping the poor and sick and downtrodden, fighting the Man. Jesus was a revolutionary, a visionary, a magic man. Plus, he told cool stories. Nothing wrong with that.
Jesus wasn't about, "follow me or burn in hell." No siree, Bob! He wanted people to be good because it makes the world a better place and it makes you happy in the long run. No condemnation there. Hell (and heaven, and purgatory, and the Rapture...all that crap) came up long after Jesus died. Look into the history of that stuff (or watch the History Channel specials--that helps, too) and you'll see that that garbage was perpetuated by church leaders much later in the game. They were all about social control and wealth and political power. So they twisted "Christianity" to suit their needs and slapped a cross on it to justify what they did. Evil, evil, evil.
Christianity just doesn't always work for people, especially the way it's been going lately. Pick what works and go with it. If you're good, God's not going to nitpick over what you did in your life.

I am a Christian and yes God is love. I don't believe hell is actually eternal because there is no time there and a short moment there is like an eternity. I do believe that by living a life of love and loving others as you love yourself without even knowing Jesus will lead you to God because he is love itself. I also believe that he does judge sin though because he is holy. That's my 2 cents!

God is love. Everyone has to find their own path to God. God has a path for everyone. No one person is the same. Jesus came to do away with the old law of commandments. He came to say that God is love and he knows we will sin and that's why Jesus came to die for our sins. Any Christian that says if you sin you are going to Hell is wrong. They sin to. Everyone sins. It's in our nature. That's why we must believe in Jesus and what he came for, for forgiveness to be applied. I am a Christian to. So I had to answer cause I do not beleive the way you have seen Christians be. I wanted you to know that we are not pointing finger type people. Well not all of us. Cause when there is one finger pointing there is four more pointing right back.

As a Muslim God is the Most Merciful, Loving, and Compassionate. There is one tradition passed down from the Prophet Muhammad stating to his companion to look at a mother who was hugging her child and then he asked his companion could you imagine that mother throwing her child into the fire and of course the companion responded by saying "no I can not imagine her throwing her child into the fire oh Prophet of God" then the Prophet responded " God is more Merciful and Loves us more than a mother her child."
But when you take that same mother symbol. Imagine if her child did something wrong. Wouldnt she reprimand him/her. Yes..right? But with love and compassion just to let correct her child to what she knows is right and moral.
And there is no one like God Most High. but just thought to share that little parable to bring closer the meaning.

I believe that people are much more important than god...
We can help them, we cannot help god...

We all have to find our own truth. I believe that their is a First Cause. That is all I know. But I think the God of the Bible was created by man. I respect all beliefs.

I agree that there are many different ways to worship---but I also believe that there are many different deities to worship. And, I'm sorry but I don't believe in any deity that is all-positive any more than I believe in an all-negative entity. I think they have what we consider both positive and negative attributes just like anything else in nature. I don't believe that any deity judges us but we simply live with the consequences of our actions (reincarnation). I know you are probably just looking for someone to agree with you---sorry that I can't.
