Eternity is forever.
Eternity is not time going on forever. Time will end. Eternity is timelessness.
It may help to think of time as the express train running by the station, and eternity as the station.

I'm afraid that eternity cannot be measured by asking how long? Long is somewhat asking for a distance and measurable (like a straight line from point A to point B) but since eternity is NOT A STRAIGHT LINE but rather a CIRCLE, it has no end. Like a Phoenix, it lives and die burn from its ashes but then lives again. Eternity is the absence of time. As per what scientists believe, if we able to reach the speed of light, time stops, for sure we cannot achieve that traveling at speed of light which is physically impossible. That's why our earthly body will be transformed into a new body which is the soul or spiritual (made of light) bodies and have an eternal life as you may say but that' s of course if we are blessed and sanctified to be one by the Almighty.

Unanswerable,Eternity is endless. It had no beginning and will have no ending. Eternity is duration without beginning or end. We are now creatures of time but will soon be creatures of eternity. All must spend this awful eternity somewhere. There is no annihilation either in the material or the spiritual world. Whatever is, shall always be. It may change form but no cessation. We shall exist consciously. (We cannot say through eternity, for we shall never get through eternity.)
And God's inspired Word declares that this shall be in one of two places. And, they are both places. One is to the good world above and the other is the bad world below. One is Heaven, the other is Hell. With God, the holy angels and the redeemed; or with the devil, fallen angels, and the lost and damned of earth.

I was with this one girl for a little more than a year and a half; that seemed like an eternity. Based on that, I have faith that eternity is equal to 1.56 years.

Longer than the mind can even comprehend. We, as humans, like to quantify everything. As eternity is of God and God cannot be quantified, neither can eternity.
