Luke 23:40-43
40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 "And we indeed justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." 42 And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!" 43 And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise."
1 Peter 2:16-17
16 Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. 17 Honor all men; love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.
Revelation 14:6-7
6 And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; 7 and he said with a loud voice, "Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters."
1 Kings 11:9-10
9 Now the LORD was angry with Solomon because his heart was turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, 10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not observe what the LORD had commanded.
KJV Psalm 7:11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
I suggest that you re-think your idea of not fearing God. Besides, the word "fear" allso carries the meaning of "respect," with strong overtones of "fear."

I have very good parents to, but they also represented authority.I can remember as a small child when in a crowd holding their hands I wasn't afraid of anything, but let their hand slip from mine and I became afraid. As long as I am holding my Lords hand I am not afraid of the devil himself, but so often like the sheep I go astray. And I fear that same separation today. It's not really God that I fear but the fear of being separated from Him.Please don't get the impression that God is in my life, then out of my life. But there is much deception in the world today and some of it sad to say is being taught right in the churches today. If we are not watchful as instructed Rev. 3:3 we can and will be blotted out of the book of life Rev. 3:5.

When the bible talks about "fearing the Lord", it means the kind of fear that makes you do what your parents tell you to do, even though you don't want to, or you would prefer to make a different choice. Example: You are in love and want to have sex, but you are engaged and won't be married for a year. What do you do? Do you wait like God says? Or do you "break the rules" and do what you choose to do, rationalizing that he will forgive you?

You could think of it as awe. Imagine the first person to see the Grand Canyon. The reaction, standing on the edge, would be a mixture of awe, fear, reverence and delight all that the same time.
The original meaning of the word sublime (often used to describe great art) connoted fear as well.

it is only natural to fear God. human beings fear things they do not fully understand and also fear not being in control. Human beings also fear being powerless. look in the Bible you will find many examples as to why even the deciples feared Jesus. I am sure you feared your parents as a child..you feared losing them, and losing there love. We must fear God because of His awesome power and the knowledge that without Him we are nothing.

Correct that we should love God but people need to fear God in the fact that we need to respect him to mock him or to say we will follow his word and then not...... that is when we should fear his wrath.
Because as you said he is a parent to us all but we must be disciplined if we fall out of his favor

People believe we should fear God because he is almighty and all powerful but those that lead a life of sin should fear God and we all sin, we can redeem ourselves but we are all guilty of a sin or two in our lives. God is loving but if we do things to displease him we will reap the seeds we soe and it may not be in this life but eventually we (those who sin without redeemtion) will have a reason to fear God.

Fear of the Lord is to respect Him. However, if God really came into your room you would be frozen with fear, because of His greatness, at least until He gave you His peace. Trust me on this I was in a rooming with a dying nun and had an experience with God at the moment of her death. I was frozen in my spot.

I had it explained to me once like this...
"The Fear of God is a 2 sided coin, one side is fear as in reverance and awe...the other is knowing he created life, gave it to you and has the ability to take it from you."

There is a long history of fearing one's father in humanity. The father has often had the role of disciplinarian in families - so when you start calling god Father, you get that sort of attitude.
Peace!
