Hi, I work in A Shelter, But this one doesnt have Animal Control So I'll give you some Ideas from The Last Shelter I worked in...It was a Small Town Shelter With 13 Dog Runs(Kennels) We would Get in Around 125-150 Dogs a Month. Many were Strays,So They werent Abused Per Say ,Mostly Neglected, We would get Dogs in With Collars on that were Terrified of People...Abused Or Unsocailized..Who Knows!...We would probably Get in 10 Abuse Cases a Month..Collars Grown Under the Skin...Homedone Ear Clip Jobs, Pit Bulls With the Scarred up Faces and Bodies From being Fought..Dogs with Broken Bones That werent Treated And Didnt Heal Right....You Should Go Visit Your Local Shelter Or Go To ASPCA.Com and Read up..They will have Lots of Info For You.... Great Project!!!!!

Wow. You picked a really hard topic . I don't know if you're going to to be able to find out an actual number, There are probably thousands of shelters ans rescue organizations in the U.S.

The only thing I could find is the link below which is about pet abuse. I hope this will help you, but I'm not really sure. The statistics I looked at and the types of different abuse is very depressing and disturbing. Of course, there are probably thousands of more cases that go reported.

Good luck.

There is no real way to tell if an animal has been abused, unless their are physical signs or witnesses.

A dog that is afaid of men may never have been abused by a man. It could be that he was just never socialized around a lot of men, or had many pleasant experiences.

Good luck with this one! You may want to contact your local shelter and/or animal control for some info on this.

I am an active volunteer at the Tacoma WA Humane Society. I am sorry to say hundreds each year. They come in injured, starving, burned, beaten and neglected. If you are going to do an article do it the right way go to the nearest shelter and see for yourself. How can you do an article with input from others. This is a very important issue. A good reporters research is first hand. Get off your butt and view this tragedy for yourself. You could make an important impact. Also I hope you spell better in your articles. Most shelters have volunteers and would welcome someone who REALLY wants to help and make a difference.

list it taking place. it really is what i ought to do. What that youngster is doing is rather inhuman and vicious. And his mom is doing rather not something about it. i does not be shocked in the experience that they took him remote from his mom. the subsequent time you move over there and observe that youngster doing something, take out a telephone, video recorder, something and list him. Then tell him off and take the images good to the police. that youngster heavily desires some counseling or perhaps going to a Juvenile Detention Camp. it rather is a intense crime, abusing animals. the mum ought to nicely be charged too. If I were you i does not provide up in this. those animals want a voice because they don't have one. Be that voice and shop them. they prefer it. Please do not provide up. i will't undergo to imagine of those animals suffering from now on.

WAY too many.
Animal abuse is less common then, say, neglected animals, but still very common.
Contact your local shelter and let them know about your project; I'm sure they'll be more than willing to help spread the word.

Animal abuse - defined under state and local statutes as physical/sexual abuse, endangerment, neglect, medical neglect, hoarding (having more animals than one can adequately care for) and abandonment - results in death for an estimated 62 percent of known animals victims each year nationwide.
According to Balkin's statistics, 71 percent of these are domestic pets, followed by livestock (18 percent); wildlife (4 percent) and exotic animals (2 percent). More than half of known cases involve intentional abuse or torture and 43 percent involve neglect to the point of starvation or failure to provide care.

Too many. People treat animals worse than they treat each other. Call some of your local shelters or sanctuaries to get "case examples" from them. Try www.petfinder.com too. Sometimes they will have case examples listed.

I think going to your local shelter would be a good idea. I have a friend who is the director of a shelter, and I can help you if you'd like to talk to her. Send me an e-mail if you'd like. Good luck!
