It is very sad indeed that these statements hold so much truth. Just because someone says they are Christian does not mean they are Christ like although that is what the bible teaches us to be. All through out the Word of God we are taught love. I believe because of a few who are ready to condemn or judge others they are defeating the purpose of true Christianity. We are not suppose to turn any away and still there are those that do. Then again the bible says that many will knock but few will enter. I personally apologize to all who have been hurt by someone claiming to have done so for religions sake. The God I serve is a God of love and He loves each and every one of us no matter what our flaws. I'm sure that when He sees someone turning away from Him because of something said or done He is truly heartbroken and disappointed.

I've always liked the Ghandi statement.
The hate part, while I can kinda see it, it's rather hateful in itself. Politics is just as hateful. I remember going to a Nixon outdoor rally in Los Angeles with my Peace sign and having this 14 year old kid rush me and say "Nixon's the one!" Up close and personal.
If we are to say Religion breeds hate, so do politics so lets get rid of parties and just have people. No more Conservatives, Republican Democrats, Socialists, Whigs, Torries, etc.
I've experienced POLITICAL hate and so did a lot of people who worked for the Democratic Party when the Watergate fellows where doing their dirty tricks!
Hatred stems from people and only people. Atheists are as capable of hate as any religious person.
The fact of the matter is today no white person under the age of 18 has any problems with black people in fact, most white teenagers I've talked with have dated or had relations with black people and had to hide it because they know the second part of my saga.
The ONLY people who have MILITANT problems with blacks from the white community are over the age of 60.
People between 30 and 60 try to be toleranate and PC, but those over 60, they don't care what words they use and they'll say it right to their 15 year old grandaughters face. What's you going around with that N for.
That's hate for a non-religious reason.
In another 100 years almost no one will understand any thing about any problems between whties and blacks. It's being largely elminated.
At least in the North and West of the US
That hate, of course, goes against the tenets of most religions. Therefore the person either doesn't give a hoot or says God and Jesus are wrong and he'll tell them that right to their faces.
Anyone using religion for purposes of hatered is Taking the Lords Name in Vain and could face God's warth at the end of times and ALL who follow that false prophet, if God so determines them to be one, will also not be in the book of life as they will have the mark of the beast.
It's that simple.
Tell me who Atheist like Mao and Stalin and Ho Chi Min are kind and generous people to ALL under them! Please, tell me WHO GREAT SOULS they are!

I am sad to agree the two statements.
1. What great men are different from ordinary is at least they know the truth. we will never be like Christ. We are human being and He is God. He try to show us the truth and the way but still we are stupid as the same. i always like a verse fr the Bible is " All your righteousness are filthy rags before Him."That's very true. That's why "salvation can be only a blessing". we are not even pre-qualify to try to get it ourself.
2. Religious ppl used to convey the wrong presentation.

What Gandhi said can be true. However, Christ was God's Son. We are fully human. Jesus was sinless. We can't be.
As for Swift's statement, all too true sometimes. I think all Christians should make more of an effort.

I disagree with the first statement, but agree whole-heartedly with the 2nd.....but what a lot of people define as 'hate' is really just the truth that they refuse to accept. And by truth, I mean as defined in the BIBLE. Not my own.

Unfortunately, both statements are all too true. If we'd quit trying to take over Jesus' job as judge, we'd do a whole lot better.

Those are very true statements of observation, and apply equally in today's world also.

1) Absolutely true
2) Because religion is not the answer. Love exists in spite of religion, not because of it.

Please remember that everyone is an individual--yes, even Christians! Not all of us fit the descriptions quoted above!
