No...I don't believe that all pitbulls are dangerous.

The owners are.

I hope you did your research on the breed.

Get your pup spayed or neutered as soon as possible. Go through http://www.friendsofanimals.org to purchase an affordable spay/neuter certificate, or go to http://www.pbrc.net and apply to their spay and neuter fund.

This will help keep aggression that may arise down.

Socialize socialize socialize! Take the pup to meet all sorts of people, ages, races, etc. The more pleasant experience that your pup gets, the more well rounded the dog will be.

Do not leave your pitbull outside unattended, or chained up. This will cause your dog to become frustrated, and doing so can cause him to become aggressive and dangerous. Not to mention, pitbulls are targets for cruel pitbull hating people.

Make sure you never take him to dog parks. This could lead to problems. Even if a bully doesn't start the fight, he will be blamed for it.

Get him or her started in obedience classes right away. I don't know where you live, but I offer private lessons as well as socialization.

Take him to parks, on leash, to meet people and other "friendly" dogs.

Do not get more than one dog, or pet, unless you are prepared to crate and rotate should the need arise. Pitbulls should never be left alone, unsupervised with other dogs, animals, or children.

There is so much to being a pitbull owner. I really hope you did your research. It could save your dog's life!

Here are a couple things t think about. I would get some material and educate yourself on your breed. There are a million common myths out there about the breed. A few of them are lock-jaw, attacks on humans, and this supposed "killer instinct". Many people believe a "Pit" bull was raised to be fought in a pit and so it was given its name. This is not true actually. When the dog was first breed it was breed as a working dog to assist farmers, ranchers, and butchers. They would use them to control unruly catle and herd them. When butchers were slaughtering the dog was used to control the livestock in question. To prove the worth of the dog they started fighting them for entertainment. It became illegal to fight them against catle, henceforth the dog fighting where Pit was added to their name.

Also many people say these dogs are agressive against humans but havent been on the top ten attacks against people in quite a few years. Many people state a fighting dog is a very aggressive dog towards people but have never taken the time to learn about a fighitng dog. Now I state this first **I dont not condone fighting nor think it is acceptable** I have simply choosen to educate myself about the subject because I own pitbulls and do not wish to be ignorant. the reason why a fighting dog can not be aggressive towards humans is simple. Before a match the opposings dogs handler has to wash the other dog and take it to the ring to ensure no chemicals are on the dogs coat. Also many times the ower will be in the ring along side the dogs while they fight to ensure they can be seperated if a tooth or such becomes snagged. Most dog fights are not to the death they are until a dog no longer wishes to pursue the fight. Like I said I DO NOT CONDONE DOG FIGHTING I simply have educated myself. All these facts can been found im many "Pit"Bull books.

Many pitbulls hold specialty jobs just as drug enforcement, Police working dogs, Border patrol dogs, SAR, Theraphy Dogs, Etc. The list goes on and on. It does not help that any time there is an attack on a person if the dog can not be easily identified as a nother breed or even has the slightest hint of a look of a "Pit" it is automatically consider a pitbull.

I have owned pits my whole life and socialize them all and never had a problem. They are some of the most gentle caring family loving dogs. I would trust them in any situation with a child or another person. I can take them to the parks and of course I get stange looks. Its funny when people run up and start petting my dogs or their kids do then after about a minute or so Im always asked "Does he bite?" well you've been petting him for a few minutes now I would hope not....

I also challenge many people to do this sometime to prove a theory of mine that many people are tainted by the media on this fact. When asked what kind of dog you own tell them an Staffshire Terrier. many people well state how they love these dogs and they are beautiful and so friendly. Then let them meet your dog and show what a good dog you have and it can behave and finally tell them its a pitbull. You would be amazed some reactions I have gotten from people that way..

So in short no dog is instinctualy mean, or breed to be mean. This is a simple fact of all dogs. One point and time they were wild and still have that side in them. It is ALL dogs owners of ALL dog breeds to socialize and train their dogs to behave.

They Can be...Pit Bulls have been bred for fighting for many years..Before the 70's The Professional Pit Fighters were the ones that Bred the Fighters and They Bred Good Dogs..Since then Gang members, Drug Dealers, Ect have starting taking an interest and they are breeding like crazy..They have all but destroyed The poor Dogs Genetics. The Dogs have a Very High Pain Tolerence, And When they DO bite they dont let go..Thats not Taught..Its IN the Breed..Just like a Lab Chasing a Ball or A Jack Russell Bouncing.I really Feel Bad for the breed because they are great Dogs and Humans(Creeps) are Ruining them. I would make sure that you teach your dog to Come, Sit , Stay,Down,Ect...Take Him to Obeidence Classes.A GOOD Owner Makes the Difference in ALL dogs. But to own a Breed such as a Pit..If a poodle Provokes it to fight The Pit will get the Blame. So Its Very Important That You have your Dog under Control...I just Went to a Seminar on Pit Fighting..It was Awful What These People Do!

Pitbulls only get a bad reputation because they bite if they feel their life is in danger .Pitbulls have a don'tl et go mentality when they are in attack mode. Plus a Cocker Spaniel will turn on you faster than a Pitbull will, if you train and love him correctly.Make sure to socialize your puppy at a young age. I work at a Vet and we have had 1 incident with a Pitbull biting because another dog tried to attack him and the owner tried to breakup it up.If you ever see a Pit fighting please just get a water hose and put in down there throat and turn on the water. THEY WILL LET GO OR STOP BITING

Well, sweetie, my community will spay or castrate your pitbull for free (read that again) give you $20, give you a year's worth of food and other things for your dog, and computer chip him. (probably so they can find the owner after it has torn off some person's face....) A good friend of mine in another state will put down any pitbull or pitbull mix FOR FREE!!!!! Does this tell you anything?

Pitbulls were bred to be fighters In a gambling PIT -- that's why they exist. There are literally hundreds of thousands of dollars bet every Friday night on pitbull fights all over the US...and thousands of dollars at any single fight.... The breeders of pit bulls, are the fighters of pitbulls. If a pup is a mistaken breeding, or if in the eyes of the breeder it just isn't going to be tuff enough, it is sold to the pet consumer...... YOU.

I've 5 Pittys in the last 18 years . 2 of which I have now ,my females Piper and Tigger.I will always have it least one Pitty in my life . I can tell you if properly socailized and taken care you couldn't ask for a better pet.

Just for a little history lesson . If these dogs where so dangerous do you think they would've had a Pitty as part of the show of the Little Rascals and Our Gang Comedy ,or how about Neville working as a k-9 law enforcement dog , same goes for Popsicle . What about Christine Crawfords Sar dogs. These dogs save human lives doing search and rescue. All these dogs and many many more every day work very closely with the public saving lives. If Pittys where so dangerous do you think they would have these dogs doing these jobs?

I dont know if all pitbulls are dangerous, so I have to go on the pitt bulls I have seen myself. Just last month, a pitt bull jumped over a very tall gate into my goat pen and was trying to kill my goats. I had to shoot the dog or watch it kill my animals.

This happened after trying for almost a year to get the owners to keep their dogs off our property. We tried talking to them, and when that didnt work, we called animal control and the police dozens of times. Animall control told me I had the right to shoot the dog if it was aggressive to me or my animals. I had no choice, and I would do it again under the same circumstances.

This was a dog that the owners said "wouldnt hurt anyone", yet it was aggressive with several people in our neighborhood.

Prior to that, all the people I have known who had pitt bulls have not been able to control them, including my sister. These dogs have been bred for many many years for aggressive behavior, and its in them, no matter how they are trained. I think they have the potential to turn at any time and I dont trust them at all.

With all the breeds available, I dont see why anyone would choose such a potentially dangerous animal as their pet. Most people say they get them for protection, and the aggression is part of the reason for that. To me, they are ticking bombs, and its just a matter of time for many owners before their dog hurts them or someone else.

No I do not believe pitbulls are dangerous! It is the owner that is dangerous. If you treat a dog with respect then respect is what you will get back. If you treat a dog mean then the dog will treat you mean. Just because the dog is big does not mean that it is a mean dog..I have known some small dogs that would rip you up good.

The Truth about Pit Bulls
Don’t believe everything you have heard!
. There are an estimated 4.8 million registered American Pit Bull Terriers that have been selectively bred for
companionship and conformation dog shows. This number does not include the unregistered APBT’s,
which would add significantly to the 4.8 million.
. The pit bull breeds have NEVER been bred for human aggression. These dogs, like all other dog breeds,
are not born inherently mean or bad! They can, like any other breed, become mean through lack of train-
ing, abuse, neglect and irresponsible ownership and breeding.
. Pit bulls do NOT have locking jaws; the pit bull’s jaw is identical to any other dog of a similar size.
. Did you know that pit bulls consistently rate higher in the American Temperament Society’s tests every
year than many common “family” dogs? The three breeds that make up pit bulls rate around the 83% pass-
ing whereas the Golden Retriever is in the 82%, Greyhound is in the 81%. You can view the list at
ww.atts.org.
. The United States Custom Service recruits pit bulls from Shelters to train in detection. One of their all
time top dogs was Popsicle, who was rescued from a refrigerator during a raid. Popsicle currently has the
highest money bust to date.
. One of the top-rated Search & Rescue teams in the U.S. is Kristine Crawford’s American Pit Bull Terrier,
Dakota. Kris has two other SAR pit bulls! They were hand-picked by NASA to aid in the recovery of the
astronauts from the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. They were also
involved in the Laci Peterson search and just recently saved a
woman’s life. You can learn more about Kris and her team at
www.forpitssake.org.
. President Roosevelt, Anthony Robbins, President Wilson, Fred
Astaire, General Patton, Humphrey Bogart, Helen Keller, Thomas
Edison, Bernadette Peters, Michael J. Fox, Ken Howard, Shannon
Elizabeth, Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson, what do these people have in
common? They are ALL the proud owners of pit bulls!
. There are many pit bulls who are productive members of society.
Trained to be service dogs, therapy assistants, educational dogs, nar-
cotics detection, actors, search and rescue and more. Many have be-
come public heroes saving peoples lives.

Not at all!! Only the ones who have learned from their owners that bad behaviour is OK. Some people get this breed to make themselves feel safe, or to look tough. Dogs sense fear, and a dog senses fear in his owner just imagine his fear, especially when he looks to his owner to feel secure. A fearful dog is an aggressive dog. Also getting a dog to look tough and allowing the dog to behave aggressive in any shape or form will only encourage this poor animal to be just what everyone thinks it is. A Dangerous Animal. It's the owners who are dangerous. So care for your dog let him know he is loved and that you will be there for him, and don't allow bad behavour. That in itself though may not be enough. The one thing that can't be stopped is how others may preceive your dog to be and how they react when being approched by you. The dog will sense this and may become fearful no matter all you have done. And no matter how nice a dog you started out with. That is why to this day I will never own another German Shepard. It is a real nice experience to finally be able to got out with my dogs and have people want to pet them. The dogs feel this and even though they bark up a storm , they are only greeting everyone. They love people and people love them. As nice as the shepards are I have come to the conclusion that no one in their right mind needs a dog that scares people. And no one in their right mind needs a dog that may one day just turn and bite a childs face off out of fear.
