That is pretty normal and is usually caused by some sort of vitamin deficiency. I would take him to the vet and everything will be ok. As gross as it is, it's not that big of a deal..

A vitamin deficiency is very likely, though it might not be the cause. Do you exercise your dog every day? Sometimes it can be as simple as an act of boredom, especially if the dog is kept in a kennel or yard that they don't leave often. Physical stimulation with rules is a nessecity for all dogs, big and small! A tired dog is a good dog!

put "Accent" or any name of meat tenderizer (I believe this is what it is) in their food. Approx. 1 level Tbsp. with some wet dog food. When Fido eats the poo, it will taste bitter and he will begin to associate bitterness with the poo and stop. You buy it in the grocery store and Accent is the one that's been on the market for years. I had two dogs that did that and the vet said it's just a bad habit.. like people who pick their nose or something.

Check with your vet...there is a product that you can give your dog so that his poop will taste weird to the dog...
Or you can fill a soda can with pennies and tape up the opening and toss it at your dog when he starts to eat it...eventually just shaking the can will alarm the dog enough

There is medicine you can give them that will make it taste bad. Or you can try giving the vet a call, just to see what they say.
Good Luck!

Walk him on leash only and pick it up as soon as he goes.

Buy a supplement formulated to add to his diet to avert him from eating his feces.

Take him to the vet to be sure he is healthy.

Make sure he is exercised, trained, etc. to keep him busy.

Good luck!

Call your vets office in the morning-explain to them what your pup is doing and ask them if they carry a product called "Forbid", it is made specifically for this problem. Please don't think you are alone-several dogs do this as gross as it is.
