I asked this question to myself a while back. I found some research that when people dye their hair on a regular basis this increases their risk of lymphoma cancer by 20%. It damages your hair and the ammonia in it makes your hair thinner, brittle, and easier to fall out. If you can't use something while you are pregnant, such as hair dye, this should show you that it is not good for you. Your skin is your biggest organ on your body and the dye is absorbed through your scalp. I use natural hair dye called henna, which is from a plant. It works well and actually improves the health of your hair.

Some are worse than others, but I do know that all hair dyes can blind you if you get it in your eyes. You always have to be very careful about that! It also depends on your sensitivities...for example, I can't be around ammonia so I have to use ammonia-free products. I haven't seen any long-term studies on the effects of hair dye, but google it and see if you can find anything.

In theory, it can be. But I think this is just a myth. Most modern commercial hair dye products are 100% safe to use. No promises though if you do it yourself with homemade dyes.
Personally, I prefer natural hair colors. But since hair dyeing has become so widespread, I've had to lower my standards a bit.

I can imagine that the fumes are bad when you get it put in. I also think it can get into your skin and cause problems if you do it often.
Think about it. The stuff is really strong, there is strong chemicals, it dyes, and kills the hair. I would automatically assume that it's not good. However there are so many things that are bad, and we are not informed. We also don't use our own good judgement.

I've heard that it diminishes your eyesight. Not sure if it's true though.
