Where has common courtesy gone? If I wasn't willing to take the penalty strokes, drop a ball and play on, I would get the ball myself. If I "needed" to have the caddie do it, then YES I definitely would up my tip at the end of my round. I may be old fashioned, but I would also say "thanks!"

I would wouldn't give the caddy extra just because the caddy got dirty doing their job, an experienced caddy would know the conditions of the course and be prepared for hazards and poor play.

Who's doing what here? You're the golfer and he/she has elected to do the caddie work. Sorry! It's horses for courses is my opinion. Who put their foot in it? Not you... and you're thinking of paying someone because they trod in some muck after deciding that they wanted to be a caddie. Why do you feel that you must pay out for this? Why don't you offer to wash his/her clothes while you're at it?!

There's a line with everything! Anyway, I found some good answers to my golf issues here sometimes. See the source box below.

Hope this helps.

Yes, give him a tip for dealing with a hacker. Then drop a new ball, take 2 strokes for an unplayable lie.

I'd just probably drop another ball.
