Do it yourself! save yourself the trouble. HR has being audit by IRS this year when they falsified someone old retiree's returns.
And they have falsified some pplx returns too! Atleast some of those comes though our tax center this year. Boy!! Why would you want to go to them, and have them ripped you off on your returns!!
Its really easy to do it yourself.
If you had to do it, goes to those freebie tax clinic held by the library or someplace else.
Bring your old tax returns, you dont need to bring any receipt with you unless you are doing an itemized return --if you are bring the receipt with you to the tax preparation place.
the receipt will be for charity donations, employee expense that your job didnt cover for while you are sent on assignment, etc.
But if you aren't doing any itemized return, youdont need any of yoru receipt. Just bring in your bank statments, and your other type of investments.
Have fun!

If your income is under $40,000, check out a local VITA site instead - they'll do it for free, and do the same thing H&R Block will charge you for. To find a site near you, go to irs.gov and type VITA in the search box.
When you go either to H&RB or a VITA site, bring any W-2's and 1099's, your social security card and that of any dependents. Copies are OK. If you are married and intend to file jointly, it helps if you AND your spouse come in, since you both need to sign, either on paper or electronically with a PIN.
If you think you might have enough deductions to itemize, bring receipts for those deductions.
And bring along a copy of last year's return.

For the 1040EZ forn it is a fixed rate as the previous answer said. For 1040 forms and and additionals Schedules it is a percentage of the tax refund. There could be some additional charges depending on additional paperwork that might be needed.
Be sure you get your Federal Phone tax refund this year. It is a one time tax refund for Federal Phone taxes you paid on your phone bill. It ranges from $30 for a single person to $60 for a family of 4 (Husband, wife and 2 children). It's not much but it's better than nothing.
This Snopes site explains it better than the IRS site does.

I strongly recommend using Turbo Tax. It is secure, and it keeps a record of your information if you need to print it off. H&R block and Jackson Hewett, places like that can take 100-300 of your returns. Again, unless you have a lot of deductions, it is very easy to do it on Turbo Tax. I got my money direct deposited into my account in 10 days.

For a basic return, state & federal...60 to 85 dollars.
Way too much if you ask me. Follow the little books' instructions and make sure that you have extra copies of the worksheets.
