She should have definitely been more responsible and brought the kid a jacket and shouldn't have asked you to give the kid yours. It's one thing if you guys were outside and it was blistering cold and the kid was obviously in pain and hurting from the freeze (the kid is not as strong enough to handle it as you are and it would be cruel to not keep it from freezing regardless) but if you were just inside a building in a restraurant and could leave at any time? Pul-lease. The kid wasn't in danger and I don't think she should have made such a big deal about it.

I think that you friend, or ex-friend is flippant. She shouldn’t have taken the little boy out without a jacket. But then she also got out without a jacket, otherwise she would offer hers. She wouldn’t ask yours. I can assume then that it was all about an unexpected change of the weather conditions and the only reason you were wearing your expensive jacket was to show off. Altogether, I think you are a ***** letting an infant freezing because you could have to send your jacket for some 3 dollar dry cleaning.

The good thing is, he would not sink to the bottom right away. If he did not get hurt when falling overboard and is consious, he will stay afloat for a minute or until he gets tired. On the other hand, if he is unconsious, he will not be able to keep his face up in the water. That's when you have to really rush to save him. The best rule, in Mexico or anywhere in the world, child must wear a life jacket when on the boat. If there is no lifevest, do not go on the trip. The life of your child is more important than missed trip.

1) Why was the restaurant so cold ?
2) One would assume that it was colder outside, so why no jacket was worn to the restaurant is also a mystery.
3) Whether the jacket was £20 or £2000 is irrelevant.
4) Any food, that a 3 year old can consume, should not cause any damage to a jacket.
5) The sleeves on an adult jacket on a 3 year old would be very long.
6) Two adults manage to not speak over such a petty situation.
7) I am now loosing the will to live just answering this stupid question.
Adults should always put children before themselves, period !

I would have refused too, especially because I hate bratty kids. Your girlfriend should have made sure that the kid was wearing something warm before going out. It's IS Winter after all.

I don't blame you, if the jacket cost a lot. The child is hers and is her responsibility, if it was cold then that was her fault, (not that it was cold lol) she should have brought a coat/jumper along for it/him/her. I speak as a mum of three! The art of good parenting is Be Prepared.

Honestly, I agree with you, and I would dump her too, bc this relationship can't go anywhere. You obviously can't stand her kid; why put up with it? I hate pshcyo parents that think their kid is always #1 priority...
And why is it that people are answering this as if the kid were going to die form discomfort? Lol.

personally i would agree with you on this, why did not the Brat's parent either a. bring the child's coat or b. why did the parent not remove their coat. Why was the restaurant cold or was this he child just whinging?
Only thing i don't understand is that you refer to them as your "girlfriend" then later on "my friend", if she is just friend then i wouldn't worry, if girlfriend i would try and sit and explain if she don't wanna know dump her
