It has been suggested that Bush feels that way. There is no doubt that he is obsessed with his place in history – even more so than your average egomaniacal politician. It might explain his apparent lack of concern for his complete failures in Afghanistan and Iraq, for allowing Israel to choke the Palestinians to death, and for further destabilizing the already volatile Middle East. And, he does maintain that he invaded Iraq on instructions from God and he began the invasion talking about it as a crusade. The US President is a very sick puppy – and very dangerous.

It would be kind of hard for a politician to be historic if he starts Armageddon. Doesn't Armageddon mean the end of the world? There wouldn't be any history then.

By reviewing books like Daniel and Revelation, you can see what type of person(s) will start the Armageddon. It's a religious/political system that changes God's laws and declares himself as Christ on earth...and often times tells people he can forgive people's sins even though he isn't God. They even have "confessions" and pray to dead humans ("saints"), who really can't intercede since they're dead.
A good book on armageddon can be found on the book source below.

As to answering your question, you never know, but as to what Armageddon is, the Bible tells us that it is God's war against the ungodly. Armageddon is not an indiscriminate war, like human war,in which everybody is affected. It's a war that will ONLY destroy the wicked. Jesus likened it to Noah and the Flood. Like Noah, those who God accepts, will be the survivors.
(Revelation 16:14-16 and Matthew 24:21,22,37-39)

I believe the radical Muslims have a similar prophecy of the Caliph, whereby they believe in an apolocalyptic war.
Under their belief system, they are charged with bringing the apocalypse about.
Christianity has different sects. One such sect, Christian Reconstructionists, believe they are charged with bringing in the millenial reign of Christ, by establishing theocratic rules. It is these Christians who seem to be running the Christian Right .
