What are gender roles like in scientology (what are men/women expected to do)?

What is your opinion on abortion?

Do you face persecution because of your beliefs?

L. Ron Hubbard started it as a money making device exploiting the ignorance of the people. Now it has grown into a cult with criminal implications warranting prosecution against those who are associated with it. If you are trying to collect a data base, you are misusing the Yahoo Answers for an illegal purpose. Of course, the organization is not yet banned by the US Government.

Scientologists view men and women as inherently different. They do serve different gender roles. It is primarily patriarchal as the man is expected to be strong and the earner while the woman is the "fairer" and capable of tackling such duties as housework and childrearing.

Scientologists consider abortion a crime against humanity but that it will not kill the "Thetan" or soul of the fetus. Opposingly, a fairly large body of parishioners are of the firm opinion that the being "enters" or takes charge of the body between three days and three hours prior to birth, and thus an abortion beforehand does not directly harm a Thetan. However, their is no proof and no dogma as to whether this is the case.

Scientology has always solicited celebrities to join the ranks of Scientology. There is a celebrity center and high level Scientologists that deal specifically with celebrities. Regardless, the effect Tom Cruise has had on public perception has been decidedly negative. His harsh criticism of psychiatry in the context of berating a fellow star for taking a prescription for Post Partum Depression has not been well received received by the masses. His recent erratic behavior also leads most to believe that Scientology has been a significant contributing factor.

There aren't any gender roles in modern Scientology.

What is your opinion on abortion?
Dianetics see abortions as an aberation.
Modern Scientology doesn't have any position on abortion. Right and wrong is dependent on the situacion.

Do you face persecution because of your beliefs?
Nope.

Has the celebrity effect hurt or helped your view of scientology? (ie are your for or against the recent celebrity scientology has acquired?)
There is so much anti-scientology propaganda out there that is nice to see some public figures say "Hey that's not right! This is Scientology."
