I was homeschooled from 4th grade until the 8th grade. It was great. I think you need to look at the reasons why you want to be homeschooled. Do you want it because you do not want to do homework or are not making any friends? If this is the case, then you should not be homeschooled, because you will probably end up doing more work at home than in school (I did), and you will not have many friends (especially if you sit around the house all day and do not try to make friends). If you want it because you feel like your classes are below you, then tell your parents that. If they cannot homeschool you, then I suggest asking (politely!) for them to let you go to a summer college/camp for kids.

First, if you are serious, I would suggest doing some research on homeschooling in your state. You can do a quick search for the name of your state and "homeschooling" in your favorite search engine.
Then, if you are serious, sit down and write down a pros/cons list of homeschooling compared to where you are going to school now.
Lastly, talk to your parents with an open mind. Have specific goals that you are trying to achieve, that you are not able to achieve where you are now. They might come up with some other ideas on how to meet those goals, and that's OK. Homeschooling is not the goal. Something else is the goal, and homeschooling might be the way to get there.
The purpose of talking with your parents is NOT to convince them to homeschool you. The (many) talks with your parents are to help them and you figure out a way to meet your needs. You may or may not be able to meet your needs homeschooling, but you certainly won't meet your needs if your only focus is to try and convince them to let you homeschool.
Homeschooling is a tool. So is school. If you don't even know what your goals are, how can you know if homeschooling will make your life better? If your relationship with your parents stinks, homeschooling will not fix that. Focus on the relationship with your parents. If you don't have a good relationship with your parents, homeschooling won't work anyway.
Good luck!

First, stop the whining and complaining. Figure out what it is that you feel about school and why you want to homeschool, or why you feel homeschooling will be better for you than going to school. Find out about the regulations where you live--you can do this at www.hslda.org --and see even if you can find a homeschool support group in your area to contact to understand better how homeschooling works there and what kind of activities may be available for you to participate in.
You'll need to bring the topic up to them, even just as a general 'feeler' to see what they think. If you meet any negativity, just ask, "Is there something that can be done about that so that it wouldn't be a problem?" They might be worried about social contact or them being responsible for your academic program or other things.
Over all, the first time you bring it up, don't expect it to come to resolution right away--they may need more time to think about it. If they have any resistance, make sure you leave it open for discussion later on. That means--don't whine, don't complain, don't argue. Just listen to what they have to say and ask for clarification if their answers are very general. Provide information when it seems appropriate, if you have it. Make sure, above all, to keep your cool and that they know you don't expect a decision from them right away.
Another thought: write up a sheet with a paragraph on why you want to homeschool, some information you found about homeschooling, links to websites they can check out, etc., and leave that with them at the end of your first discussion, if they are not open to the idea.

I found this really good website that has TONS of information about homeschooling and how to get started. They're also having an essay contest, in which the top two essayists will each win a Nintendo Wii!! The essay must be 500-1,000 words, and the question to be answered is: How is your family putting "Christ" into Christmas this year? The contest ends December 31st, 2006.
Check it out at www.learningbygrace.org

Homeschool is not all that great. Actually these kids are very bored that get homeschooled and want to go to public schools.
Stop whinnin cause life will fly by and u will look back at school and it will just seem like a faded dream.
Try to smile and make friends, u may see these friends in grocery stores one day and they will hug ya.
These are the best days of your life. Try hard to do well cause tomorrow u will be driving a car and going to work.
Enjoy school and think positive is the key.

you're awful young to want to be home schooled..... I was overweight as a child and HATED SCHOOL..... I wish there were things then like there are now. there's an online highshcool that you can go to school while you're at home. no class rooms, just learning. I would suggest that if you really want to be homeschooled, do your research. your parents are only gonna be receptive if you respect them. don't wine, don't complain, just tell them honestly what is going on, and why, and give them options for yourself. but, remember, if you coop yoruself up at home, you'll just miss out on soooo much living... highschool and middleschool are supposed to be the best years of your life. and they go by so quickly. good luck, honey.

The grammar in the answers, and questions are atrocious! I'm a 17 yr. old who's currently being home schooled. I started in High School which is a lot easier since there are many programs that will home school you instead of your parents. If your parents are ready to dedicate their time, and sometimes money. Sit them down and let them know what's going wrong in public school. Make sure you research home school programs, and show them to your parents when you meet. Good Luck!

Its your parents choice. And they may not be capable of doing home school even if they thought it was for the best
Why don't you tell us what it is you hate about school?
are you teased? are you too smart for the 6th grade?
are you hopeless behind? (you are not hopeless, but it certainly can feel like it)
Tell us what is so horrible about YOU going to YOUR school and maybe we can answer that

Grow up and show a little maturity. If you are whining and complaining to get your way, then I doubt that you have the maturity and discipline to be a successfully home schooled student.
