I would go for a Pino Noir. The Merlot or the Cab may be too strong a taste for you. Happy Holidays and have fun on your dinner date!

Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon, Chile Martinez, Faustino Rioja Crianza, Spain Rosemount Diamond Label Shiraz, Australia Fetzer Valley Oaks Syrah, California Those four are all under $12 a bottle. If the filet will, by chance, have a cracked black pepper on it... please do your palate a delicious favor and have David Bruce Petite Syrah. The peppery notes in this wine will pull out the flavor of your beef and the pepper on the beef will pull out the peppery notes in the wine. It's a perfect flavor combination :) It's a little more than the others... but SO worth it! If you really want something a bit lighter... and you can do filet with something not so heavy handed because it's a delicate beef... then try Chateau Ste. Michelle Columbia Valley Merlot, Washington. It's consistently top-rated and not so much tannin (that's what makes your mouth feel dry) and I think you'd find it a very pleasant combination as you enjoy your meal. Happy New Year!

He of course is aware of the fact that due to it's almost total lack of fat filet mignon must be served with a sauce and those sauces tend to be fatty due to either heavy cream or egg yolks.
You are allegeric to red wine and nothing ruins a date faster than a trip to the ER.
I would have recommended a Chateauneuf de Pape - very nice
Instead i am going out on a limb and suggesting a Montrachet or a notch or so down on
the grape vine is a Pouilly Fuisse
Both are French , both are from the Burgundy region and both are made from the chardonnay grape. However the French interpretation of this grape is completely different than the American version and I think much better.

I'd say to go with a Napa Valley Cabernet. A good value choice would be Stag's Leap Hawk Crest which you can get for around $15 a bottle.

If you have allergies, drink something else so you can enjoy the evening. Let your boyfriend enjoy the wine.

If you have allergies to reds, then stay away from them. Do a white dry like a sauvigion blanc. Dry red wines, go preferably with red meat. Or find a local wine shop and ask them to help. Tell them you have allergic reactions to some reds. I'll bet it's the sulfites in the wine that get you. Ask them to find you one without sulfites.

I think a nice beaujolais wine like Cantina di Negrar from Italy. I just love the juicy 'freshness' of beaujolais. The last trickles of autumn colours in a bottle of wine. I'm drinking some now! :D

Go with the 2006 Georges Dubeof Beujolais Neuveau. Great taste, moderate price and just in time for the holidays again.

I recommend a red wine called Shiraz especially a brand called Woop Woop Shiraz from Australia. It is awesome! Hope you are not allergic to it.
