photo booth machines and normal cameras?

Question

photo booth or a standard camera,which gives out the best acurate shot?
I look 60% better on a photobooth shot then I do on an embarassing family shot!
so the more expensive the camera the better quality shot?

I do seem to recall that Richard Avedon hearded his subjects into a mall photo-booth for their portraits. It kept the embarrassing families away.
