The same reason paintings are called paintings when they are already painted. I hope that this is a gag question, because anyone older than 13 should know the difference between nouns and verbs.

For the same reason we drive on a parkway and park in our driveway. A pair of glasses is singular and buildings are already built.
Sounds all very reasonable to me.........?
