We are forced into an ultimatum and have to have a 2nd wedding reception a month later for an entire wing of the family (rolling eyes). I need to know how many of my possessions to sell ;-) For a decent luncheon at a hotel, what's the approx overall cost?

Obviously, it depends on the city and the hotel, but probably no less than $10 a head for something nice. Buffet style may save you a few bucks.

Here's a suggestion to decrease the price... find a hotel that can do a brunch on a Sunday. Since it's buffet style, not quite lunch and less expensive because of the day, it's a great option. In the SF Bay Area, Faz Restaurant in the Pleasanton Sheraton is pretty good.

I don't know about where you're getting married. At a hotel in Toronto where I live, I was seeing the cheapest for $40-$50 (Canadian $) a head. That doesn't mean you can't bargain etc. You might be better off renting an affordable hall and getting your own caterer. I hope all goes well for you!

Call around. The cheapest place would probably be in a hall by a caterer. You can check out a fire hall or a church hall. Maybe you could just have the family bring food instead of wedding gifts. Just be sure you show the video of the wedding and have the same or better wedding day souvenirs!

It will be really expensive at a hotel. I say rent a park shelter for $30 and make their asses eat outside! You can pay a caterer to set up the food out there.

Yikes! I feel bad for you! A second reception??? Please, tell me more!
