I believe that when Jesus talked about heaven, he was talking about how good people generally had a happier life, so they could "rest in peace". Whereas those who commit crimes get punished and suffer throughout their lives (hell). I think heaven and hell takes place during the lifetime, not after.

Heaven and Hell are not metaphorical places expressed by you. They not only exist but are integral part of every human life.

Heaven (aka Swarga in Hinduism) is a place in the mighty Cosmos wherein the souls rest in peace until they get to manifest a body on Mother Earth. But there is one condition attached. Any soul can only go to Heaven provided there is a positive balance of karma in hand.

All souls with a negative balance of karma go to hell (aka Naraka in Hinduism).

For every soul (aka Atman in Hinduism) at any point of time there are three abodes available. Either manifest a body on Mother Earth provided matching womb is available (for any soul to manifest on Mother Earth the existence of matching parents is an essential must).

If the matching parents are not available on Mother Earth then it is imperative that the soul would have to rest either in Heaven or hell based on the balance of karma of the earlier manifestations.

And what is karma? Right from the first manifestation the closing balance of any life form is transferred to the next manifestation through the process of karma. It is only karma which keeps the system going. In absence of karma the complete existence of Cosmos would come to a halt.

Does this mean that the reincarnation and the rebirth theory are correct... yes, they are hundred percent correct. Every human being started his first journey as an amoeba (single cell formation), then evolved into insect life, animal life and finally gained the form of a human being.

In all these stages the system of Heaven and hell plays role only after one has manifested the form of a human being... the last in the chain of manifestations.

We need to remember here that it is not Heaven that one would want to go but it is the kingdom of God where Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed went.

Every enlightened soul rests finally in the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism). A place of no return... none can enter the kingdom of God in bodily form. Only souls that have reached the stage of salvation (known as moksha in Hinduism) can enter the kingdom of God.

Starting from the stage of amoeba to reaching the stage of salvation... Announces the end of the journey of the soul! This is also the end goal of every human life. The materialistic oriented human beings who measure everything in terms of money in the present Kali Yuga (the metal age) consider Heaven to be place of enjoyment. And that to with no strings attached.

Our wanton desires and materialistic tendencies prompt us to go to Heaven. Above 99% people on Mother Earth would want to go to Heaven for they do not understand the true meaning of Heaven. Indulgence or no indulgence is for us to decide.

It is a chain of 8.4 million manifestations as a whole out of which 1.1 million manifestations are in human form alone. The total journey of the soul requires 96.4 million earthly years... a long journey indeed! Heaven and Hell are very real places. Heaven will be more wonderful than anything experienced on earth, and Hell worse than the most awful thing experienced on earth.

Some people have been given real visions of heaven and/or hell or experienced one of them in near death experiences. These four videos show examples. The last link is a test you can do to see where you are currently headed.

i'm so sorry, you are sadly mistaken
you don't have to commit crimes to be sentenced to hell
everybody has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God
the punishment for sin is eternal separation from God in hell
hell was the place created for Satan and those fallen angels and all others who chose to reject God
if you do not accept Jesus as your personal Savior then you are on your way to hell
if there was no literal hell or heaven there is no reason for Jesus
He died for our sins and to bridge the gap between man and God created by our sins.
He saved us from eternal damnation and the punishment we deserve for our sins which is eternity in hell
He died and gave us the choice of salvation.
there is no salvation if you aren't being saved from something
if there's no hell then there's no reason to accept Jesus
what you're saying is if people live a good life they will experience heaven and there is nothing after life
and that's not biblical

That's not what the Bible teaches! Mt. 10:28 And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but reather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

2 pe 2:4 For God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment.

Re 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Lu 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame.

Hell is very real, just spend some time reading your Bible. Also Heaven is a very real place, not just some metaphorical place.

P.S. I went to youtube site, all that proves is there is a fool born every minute.

Ro 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Jesus uses the word "eternity" too often in reference to heaven and hell to have any biblical basis for your theory that it is some good or bad thing only.
on earth.

Both are eternal and they just begin on earth. Those who choose not to have God as their lord and savior on earth will not have him after this life. And those who choose Him as lord of their lives will have Him for eternity.

And the inmates of Heaven will call out to the inmates of Hell, saying, 'We have indeed found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you also found what your Lord promised you to be true?' They shall say, 'Yea!' Then a proclaimer shall proclaim between them, saying, 'The curse of God is on the wrongdoers
And they say. 'None shall ever enter Heaven unless he be a Jew or a Christian.' These are their vain desires. Say, 'Produce your proof, if you are truthful
