what the equivalent would be in beans I want to make myself and add to the recipe. Does it depend on the type of bean? Can anyone help me figure this out, I prefer making my own beans rather than buying them in a can. Conversions please

I like cooking my own beans, I prefer them the way I cook them and I control how much of what gets into them especially when it comes to salt. Please, not to sound rude, but don't put something down unless you are answering the question, otherwise there really is no reason to write anything. As for living "off the grid" just that term scares me a little im not an exteremist...

I almost agree with Babysister- I usually count it as about 2 cups cooked beans. To make that amount, you'll want to soak about 1 to 1 1/4 cups dried beans (depending on type), and cook according to directions for the kind you're using.

a recent survey on Food Network's "Ham On The Street" showed people could not tell the difference between canned and soaked beans, and studies have shown there is very little nutritional difference between the two. Just make sure you rinse the canned beans to get rid of any salt used in processing. No need to go to all the extra work if you don't have to.

Your recipe calls for, beans? No specification as to what kind? That's unusual. You can use kidney beans (red or white), pinto beans or a can of chili. Perhaps you could use Garbanzo beans, but they're usually just in bean salads (or even green beans). To make beans, you have to grow them, and you have to know when to pick them. My favorite is Lima Beans. Grew them once. Unless you're going to can your own beans, you could just use them, out of the garden.

yes, i does depend on the type of bean.
And, YES, there is a considerable advantage to making your own dishes : NOT necessarily your own beans!
