It must say so. It really makes no sense to shoot in B&W unless you're worried about storage space though. You can always convert a color to B&W with just about any software. Many of which are free. If the shot didn't really work in B&W, you're stuck though. Shoot in color, convert later, compare , delete the other.

Check the product description before making a purchase. I don't know of any cameras that have that mode, but i'm sure some do.

A lot of them don't have that...check to prod description or the manual.
