It will vary greatly from dog to dog.
It may take her as long as 3 days to leave the babies.
It is "normal" for her to want to protect her babies, even if there is nothing to protect them from.
As others have stated, leave her food and water bowl within 1 to 3 feet of her bed so she can get to them quick. I also place pee pee pads or paper nearby, so if she decides to use the bathroom while I am not near, a place is close and convenient..
She is the sole means of warmth and food to her babies, she is just being a very good mom.

Hi!

I breed dogs and generally within 4 to 5 days the mother of the dogs I breed will start to feel comfortable leaving the pups for a very short period of time. And after about 7 days the mother will last longer away from the puppies.

Just make sure that she can get to her water bowel and even hold it up tp her. She may not leave her pups if you have too many visitors of she feels unsure of the safety of her pups. Give her time as she will let you know when she has to go. Just keep visitors down to zero, except you, for a few days, since she is so attentive.

She sounds like a good Mom. Staying with them is great BUT time to be taking her outside to poop /pee twice a day. Just a quick trip. Watch for any unusual discharge that might indicate an infection. Watch for a failing pup - not suckling, getting thin. Google ' Caring for the Lactating *****".

She's being a good mom - she'll go when she absolutely has to. You need to make sure she's eating and drinking well - take her food and water to her.
