I have always wondered this. I'm pretty positive he doesn't have seizures or anything else wrong with him, because he's totally healthy, but it's always like he's dreaming or something. He would twitch his paws, then his back paws, then his body, then his eyes, then he'd half open his eyes and then they're red, then I shake him and he wakes up, goes back to sleep, and doesn't twitch for the rest of the night. It looks really scary when he does it!

I think he is probably just dreaming. My dogs do the same thing. Sometimes it will look like they are trying to run in their sleep and a few times my dog has even started barking while he was asleep. Its all just a dream.

dogs dream, like people. My dog used to chase things in her sleep - her little paws would make running motions, it was cute. There's nothing wrong with him.

Dogs experience REM sleep just like humans do. He's just dreaming. Try putting food in front of him while he sleeps...im sure he'll lick his lips.

He's just dreaming. My cat sometimes acts like he's nursing from his mom...but he is now 4 years old...so I think that maybe he's remembering his childhood.

Good luck...if you think there is something seriously wrong with him, please take him to a vet.
