No, but you do have to make sure that the oil is hot before you put them in. Drop in one piece - when it floats on the top, the oil is hot enough.

The answer is no. French Fries are deep fried potatoes. What you do to prepare them is cut the potato's into strips to your liking,(thick or thin) then it is advisable to pat dry them before sinking them into a small vat of oil. The wetter the potato is when it's put into the heated oil the more of a splash-back you get when the water meets the hot oil. After that you cook them to the crispness you want. Be sure your potato's are raw when you make your french fries. Home fries on the other hand are boiled then cut before you fry them. Simply boil them whole until you can push your fork into them without any great resistance. When you can do this with your fork then you know that the potato's are cooked. Letting them cool over night is the best way to fry them for your breakfast. Slice them and place them in a well greased frying pan then again; cook them to a crispness that suits your tastes. Enjoy

No. Peel em, slice em, toss them in olive oil and chopped garlic or parmesan cheese, or sprinkle w chili powder. Spread them on a baking sheet and bake at about 400-425. Turn them over for even cooking. If you're frying them in a deep fryer, make sure the oil is hot enough. Hope that helps.

You shouldn't have to - but for crispy fries, as you cut them up, place them into a bowl of cold water.
Here's an oven version for you...

"Garlic Fries" - 6 servings

3 lbs. peeled baking potatoes; cut into 1/4"-thick strips
4 tsp. vegetable oil
3/4 tsp. salt
Nonstick cooking spray
2 tbsp. butter
8 garlic cloves; minced (about 5 tsp.)
2 tbsp. finely chopped fresh parsley
2 tbsp. freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 400*.
Combine first 3 ingredients in a large zip-top plastic bag, tossing to coat.
Arrange potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet coated with nonstick cooking spray. Bake 50 minutes or until potatoes are tender and golden brown, turning after 20 minutes.
Place butter and garlic in a large nonstick skillet; cook over low heat 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add potatoes, parsley and cheese to pan; toss to coat. Serve immediately.

NO, N-O, no.

no, no, no, no, no. Cut them into frenchmen, er, uh french fry shape, fresh potatoes, and have the deep fryer, your Fry-Daddy Brand deep fryer (no spam here....), with oil at 375 degrees, drop a few in at a time, and when they are done perfectly, they float to the top, begging to be pulled out, asking you to "eat me"......

Yes, they end up much nicer and more crispy. Bring them to the boil and simmer for a few minutes. Drain them really well then into a hot fryer!

No,,but leave the skin on them,,that's so much better.....and I like to rinse them in water to get some of the starch off them,,,,make sure the oil is HOT before you put the potatos in the oil ,,,that seals them and makes them crunchyer..salt to taste and enjoy,,
