Scratchy throat since Saturday evening (and it is Tuesday night as I write this), and I sound like a chronic smoker. I have a cough, and feel kind of nasueus. Also, and this is the real weird part, I've also been kind of gassy. Like, burping.

I have cough drops (Ricola) and it seems worse when I'm not taking them. Also been taking a bit of cough syrup, and vitamins.

The problem is, I live in a dorm, and so the health clinic on campus will only say "Sorry, you live in a dorm, you are gonna get sick." The clinic really does suck. Is there anything you guys recomend? Also, I only live a couple hours from home, and am wondering if I should go home to talk to my doctor.

I'm not allergic to anything, and haven't been coughing up anything, surprisingly. My nose isn't even stuffed up.

Sounds like you have a bad cold. Could end up being the flu. If this last more than 3 to 4 days go home and see your doctor. In the mean time. Take only tylenol if not allergic and eat chicken soup, and drink hot tea with honey and lemon. Gargle with Cepacol mouth wash. The only cough syrup I would take to be safe is childrens benedryl. Again only if your not allergic. Mint tea helps with gassy and burping.

I understand that the father of modern medicine - Hippocrates - said, "Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food"...but we never follow his advice. Anything from the onion family is known to be really good for colds and flu-like symptoms. My advice is to find a huge onion, cut it up and steam it, then eat it all. It's quite easy to eat this way, especially with a little butter. Then, drink all of whatever's left of the steam water. Do that just before you sleep and whatever germ or virus is causing your throat problems will have fled the building by the morning [you may be able to hear their little screams]. The stomach thing's probably got something to do with stress. Check out 'Peace is Every Step' by Thich Nhat Hanh.

Are you coughing up anything?

Clear or white suggests a virus. Yellow, green or brown suggests and infection and you'll need antibiotics - see your doctor.

Either way drinks lots of liquids! The burping may be from swallowing air when coughing.

Plenty of vit C...warm apple cider vinegar and honey will help your throat...chicken soup broth works too .... suck on raw garlic cloves...powerful but will help for sure and your roomies will love it :P

Don't go to the Dr. for a cold...let it take it's course and let your body build immunity...people are so soft and wussies about that stuff, no wonder they are always sick, it is their own doing with over-medicating.
