Hey scruffy...at least you are honest!

What would I do? Now this is an interesting question because I have always wanted to be the President. I think the first thing to be done is to make sure that Congress and the People understand the President's job. Congress needs to understand that the people are the most important aspect of their job. I would investigate all of congress and all government offices using whatever resources I had to use (outside firms, government firms, military, whatever) to find waste, to streamline operations, and to save hundreds of millions of dollars. Government waste MUST end. The people must be shown that the ELECTED position of President can be trusted again. Any government official found to be doing anything illegal will be prosecuted federally by the FBI or other appropriate agency. The Attorney General will show no remorse to these offenders.
Secondly, I would introduce legislation to amend the constitution doing away with the Electoral College as is and making it either a representative institution (where, instead of getting all the votes for a state by getting 50.01% of the people's votes, it would be possible to split votes 50/50 based on the electorates wishes!) or go back to the idea of direct election of the President (we count all the votes anyways!)
Third would be to refocus the energies of congress and government on domestic issues. We currently worry to much about the rest of the world while we sit here at seemingly refuse to admit the USA has problems. I would direct congress and the states to begin to address poverty, welfare reform, health care, violence, crime, and the economy. I would commission a study to evaluate and give suggestions in each of the above areas including researchers, general population, and experts.
Fourth would be a total overhaul of the federal governments role in the education process. Education used to be exclusively a local/state issue until the Great Depression when compulsory education and federal interference began to weaken the education system. Now, with NCLB, the education system is becoming more weak and less effective. I would repeal NCLB and then sit down with top educators across the land and work out something that is operable and can truly improve education in America.
Fifth would be to decrease our reliance on foreign oil by developing new sources of domestic oil and new sources of viable energy that is cost efficient and practical.
Lastly, I would revamp our foreign policy and reevaluate how we help other nations financially, militarily, and through humanitarian aid. I would cut off aid to countries not deserving or who are terrorist supporters, continue aid to those who deserve it, and send aid to those who need it. However, I would not send more than is needed and would hesitate to interfere in others political issues. I would not invade a sovereign nation without having a better reason than I thought they had WMD or thought they had anything. i would require more proof than stupid intelligence.

Being president is not easy because there is pressure from every side. Overcoming those pressures is necessary and keeping from being bought by idiots who want only for themselves and could care less about the common people. If only we could restore sanity and take away greed, perhaps we would be able to restore America to its greatest point in time.

First I would seek advise from Congress. My polices in the middle east would be different. I would talk to my enemies. No talk equals no prospect of peace. I would attempt to solve some of the social problems such as health care, affordable housing, education and job training. Our education system is a mess. We are teaching our kids to take a test. That will not help them be successful in life. I would not belong to one political party as both have good ideas. Most of all I would not infringe on the peoples rights and freedoms. Taxation would be fair. Contracts with my administration would be an open book for all tax payers to easy access and understand. Cut out the waste and we can pay for many good programs. College education or trade school would be free to all. As long as the achieve and maintain the GPA required. There would be stem cell research. There would be no death penalty. We would strive to achieve the goal of the four words above the entrance to the Supreme Court. "Equal justice under law". We would go back to the basics. Nothing hard just the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We would be a nation of the people by the people and for the people.

Strengthen security of our borders, cities, counties and States (including improving transportation security of our roads, railways, air and shipping industries). Promote the military and police departments by providing better pay, training, and opportunities. Increase funding for educating all our citizens (fix the old buildings, pay teachers higher salaries, put the education of our children as a number one priority). Deal with the health care system and all its problems to make sure all our citizens receive basic medical care (including mental health care). Revamp the tax system (it's a total mess). Encourage and support American ingenuity. We need people who create new technology and new products (inventors, scientists, etc.).

I don't think I'd make a great President because I've never been blessed with that charisma and charm many Presidents have (e.g., Kennedy, Clinton, Reagan). My voice has a Midwestern whine to it (lol)... and I'm not a Rhodes Scholar (just a community college grad). :-)

Set the punishment to fit the crime.
Fair taxes everyone gets the same amount of earnings tax free, same personal exemptions, same tax breaks or credits.
Make some traffic laws common across the nation.
Make text book publishers publish history books that are right, geography books that give the right names to a country on the right Continent, and the 50 individual sates are not countries.
Let the people over 18 decide for themselves if they want to wear seat belts or not.

Restore the Federal Government to its size, scope and role as mandated in the US Constitution. If it was good enough for the Founding Fathers, it's good enough for us.
