the Church is both human and divine. it is human because it succumbed to its frailties and many leaders committed sin and corruption and yet it is divine because it still exists and will continue to exist as God's family. there is only one church with so many branches. the reformation started when some christians wanted change from outside of the roman catholic branch of christianity while the counter reformation started when christians wanted change from within the roman catholic branch. both are a result of God's intervention to know him better and to be like him.

The same issues are alive today. The reformation (for those who don't know what we are talking about) was the Protestant break away from the Roman Catholic church. While the Roman catholic church has changes a lot of its practices since then, it has not changed its basic theology.
The Protestant Reformation emphasized the doctrine of salvation by grace, among other things.
The counter reformation was a movement within the Catholic church to counter the Protestant reformation, to keep it from growing, and hopefully to draw Protestants back to the Roman church. The Jesuits, or Society of Jesus, were at the fore-front of this movement. They used persuasion, education, and some reforms within the church in order to accomplish this. They did succeed in partially, at least, plugging the leaks.
Today, the issue of free grace is still a major one. The Jesuits are still concerned to keep Catholics within the fold as much as possible.
So yes, both are very significant to our Christian faith today.

If reformation is in accord with a realignment of basic christian beliefs, history, documents, and 'personality'...it would be very significant to those who benefit from it. Christians. To reverse alot of division, would be my goal. I would not water down any truths, but reaffirm the ones we have been given.
It almost seems as if my reformation would be defined as counter reformation, huh. Well, I think that there, in a christian faith community of people, there has to be 1 truth. Not many.
