wow that messed up, yea I can see where you would be concerned about the staff retaleateing and your child has a while left to go in school. I would take it to the school board. I would agree not to press criminal charges if the teacher resigned, and stay far away from my child. If the school gives him any crap I would take it further. But awhile ago a first grade teacher in my sons school whom actually taught my daughter when she was in first grade( which she is now in 6th ) was having problems with a child, he was very unruley, now this teacher had been in the school for 32 years, she had seen and delt with a heck of alot, but she put gray duct tape on the childs mouth, it left a huge red mark and some of the gray sticky stuff, imagine the embaressment of this child and his family. I loved her as my childs teacher but I could only imagine what that child felt and his parents. well she ended up resigning and actually was aressted but was freeded on bail at the same time. she never seen the inside of a jail cell. now if we snatch our child up in public and almost choke them or tape their mouth and leave a mark what do you think would happen to us? so why is okay for them to get just a slap on the hand? Sue his rear end and put him in jail.and if the school has anything to say, sue them for harassement and home school him. good luck e-mail me and let me know the outcome if you would? my address is in my profile.

What the teacher did is unacceptable, especially with a child. However, you should wait for the police report before jumping in any further. The teacher may be fired or put on probation, which would make the restraining order and lawyer unnecessary. Be sure to keep current with what the police are doing so the report doesn't end up on the corner of someone's desk forgotten.

You defenetly need to call a lawyer and get someone into this besides the school! The school will try and cover their butt and may not make sure things 900%. Anyway, you need to tell your son to pay closer attention in class. I am assuming you are a single parent? (No husband was mentioned in this question, JW)

He will NEED to go to jail! He can't be hurting kids! 6! Oh my goush, what if he hit a 4 year old? He would defenetly go to jail! Why shouldn't it be any different for a 6 year old? Press charges! Teachers can't lay hands on their students in *Any* way!

((And like I said before, get someone else involved other then the school. Sometimes schools cover their butts, and don't check on anyone else. See if the teacher has a record.))

I would file charges against the teacher but I wouldn't sue, but I'm against unnecessary lawsuits and I can't see how suing the teacher, school, or school board will help do anything except take needed money away from the educational system and the teacher probably doesn't have much money considering their pay.

Yes do it! Don't care so much about his feelings because I'm sure if what your son said was true... the teacher wasn't thinking to much about your son's feelings when he choked him. In the end, do what you feel is right, trust your gut.

You should persue legal action against the teacher and the school. Good Luck.

it is YOUR job to protect your child. the teacher is an adult and needs to be accountable for his actions. don't worry about him getting in trouble, he put himself in that position. your son shouldn't be put back into that classroom until the teacher is removed or the investigation is complete.

it is highly unlikely that the teacher will go to prison. Most likely probation. Even if the teacher did go to jail, he/she would serve very little time.

Um, call the police now if you haven't already. Then file a suit. There really isn't any other way to handle it. This is your child.
