My cat, Mittens (believe me, I named her many years ago) has some strange characteristics I've never really seen in a cat. I'm not sure if it's her craziness or IQ.
1. She meows a LOT. Not 24/7, but whenever I'm near, she will most always meow in rapid succession, even if she has plenty of provisions. You can make a meowing noise and she will meow back.
2. Even though my other cat hates Mittens, whenever she comes inside, Mittens will immediately come to her and either sniff her behind or lick her head, depending on which way she's facing.
3. Mittens likes to go outside, but shortly after she goes, she starts meowing to want in. If you let her in, she will likely want back out soon.
Keep in mind this isn't always the case, but this is usually what happens. Also, Mittens loves me to death, if that makes any difference.

Oh, by the way, she also licks my hand a lot and occasionally adds some bites while she's licking my hand.

I think you just have a cat with alot of personality. Every cat is differnet. I have 3. One is shy and only comes to you when he wants attention. The other is bold and the leader and clings to one family member. then I have the oddball that loves everyone and is constantly on my or any others lap. He nuzzles up to your neck all the time. So is your cat crazy???? Nope....... he just loves you and wants your attention :)

From my 30 years of experience with cats they're all slightly crazy. You happen to have a talker. Lots of cats communicate with their people like yours does. I also have a talker who goes out only to ask to come right back in. She loves to cuddle in winter and have her tummy rubbed. She likes to head butt me and then give me a little love bite. Sometimes she licks my hand but mostly I get head butts from her. If I talk to her she talks back. This tends to crack my cousin up because she's never had a cat of hers do this. Mittens sniffs your other cat's butt just to make sure she's still dealing with the same old curmudgeon. The lick on the head tells the other cat that Mittens bears her no ill will. Just enjoy her while she's around you have a prize living with you.

1) Some cats are very talkative while others are very quiet. Sounds like you just have a very vocal kitty. My male cat is like this, even has about 20 different purrs.
2) Mittens is sniffing your other cat to see where she has been. Cats associate by smell so she's giving your other cat the run down when she gets home. (The licking is she's trying to clean her off, possibly she doesn't like a smell on her)
3) My female cat is this same way. I only allow my cats in my backyard where they won't climb our privacy fence (best to keep them safe) but inevitably, as soon as my female goes out, she wants right back in. According to my vet, she's very curious about what's out there but is too scared to venture far and wants to be sure she can still get in.
Sounds like she's a perfectly normal cat - just a bit different than what you're used to. =) Love her, she sounds adorable and full of personality!!

Hi,
My cat is a lot like Mittens, very neady and affectionate. When I come home he walks around upstairs and cries very pittifuly until I go up there and pet him. He also follows me around and licks my face and anywhere else that is convenant at the time to get my attention. I think your cat is normal but just more affectionate than the average cat.

No she isn't crazy just talkative and lovable. Nothing wrong with mittens as a name. You say you named her years ago maybe she is just getting older, also a lady has a right to change her mind about weather to be outside or inside.Mittens is a bigger cat for ignoring the other cat's hated for her and shows affection anyway.

Actually that sounds like pretty standard personality behaviour.
1. Some cats are very vocal, especially when they respond to your vocal noises.
2. Just like people, some cats are friendlier to their peers than others. One cat will immediately like others and never give up even if they get swatted. Whereas another will crouch in a corner and just glare.
3. She's telling you she doesn't want you to close the door. She wants to wander in and out freely so she plays the in and out game until you get the point. My cat actually learned how to push open the closed sliding screen door herself.
4. Some cats will give 'love nips' They are pretty harmless. Just another show of affection. You can discourage them if you like, or just chalk it up to personality.
All in all, it sounds like you just have a quirky girl. that's the best thing about cats! How much personalty they have.

Nope, your cat is not crazy. My cat, Julie, does most of the same things--we have no other cats, so that 'greeting behavior' is missing, but Julie does the rest. I suggest you listen to Garrison Keillor's cat song... the name is something like, "I Wanna Go Out...I Wanna Come In". I think it's the kitty version of a power trip. How many times can they make their human subservient to their will?

No worries, my cat does the same thing. She usually stands by the garage door and meows that she wants to go in. 10min. later she opens the door and gets out, 10min. later she wants to go back in. When I sit on the the bed she usually lays on my lap and licks my hand, occasionally biting me. If one of the other cats come in, she usually runs up to them to smell where they have been, but if one of the other cats come up to sniff her she usually gives them a smack with her paw.

Lol, that sounds very cute! One of my cats behaves similar. She will meow her head off. When you stare at her she stares back until she can't take it no more and starts meowing very pityful. Cats have their little personalities and it sounds like your cat has a loooot of personality!!! :o)

We used to have a multi element cat tree (floor to ceiling variety) and it had a mouse on a stretchy string putting from the right. actually one of my cats used to snatch the mouse and stretch it throughout the time of the front room till she lost her grip and it went flying decrease back throughout the time of the room to smack into the wall. quicker or later she did that and really one of our different cats jumped on a platform. even as Morph enable the mouse bypass it smacked the different cat contained in the butt and, properly i don't think of i have ever seen her bounce so severe!
