Acupuncture has been shown to be mildly effective in treatment of pain. It basically increases blood flow to the area they prick, and it has a placebo/calming effect. The whole procedure helps people with stress with jus the technique they use. But if you have arthritis, I'd see a doctor. They can provide you with anti-inflammatories that will reduce the swelling and make you feel a whole of a lot better. They can also control the arthritis in your whole body, not just that joint.

But if you are already seeing a doctor, acupuncture can't hurt... well just a little poke. :)
