You should put yourself up because you receive the freedoms that other servicemen and women have fought for. You want the freedom to make stupid statements, but when the time comes, do not have the balls to keep that freedom.

Id be so very proud of you if you said no!! i mean if you have no reason in your heart to fight against any country then i don't think you should fight you would be useless in a war if it's not from your heart or if you don't believe that country to be an enemy and it makes no sense to fight if you don't agree with the war in my view. Many Americans in the military go into military because they get paid really good and get more of a chance to get a great job for the future then when the time comes they get shipped out for whatever reason if they agree with it or not they signed a contract and that's there whole life they choose and more then likely the only income coming into the family so it's like they have to go to war if they wanna get paid and support there family even if they don't agree with it or not that i think is wrong and a good way to get killed really fast against people who are willing to strap a bomb to there body and die killing as many Americans and Zionists as they can a war fought with there hearts protecting there land and country from the great leeches of the world mainly U.S/Israel.

How many of the people answering here are either miltary or ex-military?

If you've never served for your country then you have no understanding of the question.

As a ex-British Army Infantry Officer and veteran of Northern Ireland and Iraq I can tell you that when a country resorts to conscripting (i.e. drafting) soldiers in an offensive war then you have every right to refuse the draft as someone roped into fighting for something he doesn't believe in makes a sh*t soldier anyway. If you don't believe me look at the conduct of American troops in Vietnam, Iraqi conscripts in both wars, Russian troops in WW2, etc.

So to answer your question in an offensive conflict I wouldn't be proud or ashamed of you for refusing to fight. However in a defensive war those who refuse to fight are to put it bluntly cowards and undeserving of the rights of citizenship.

I would of fought in ww2 or any war that was for the good of
man,but not for liars who only want oil and power.this war
is an insult to free thinkers like us.people should read the
facts about this war properly and not dismiss them so
easily.I wouldn't be proud of you though,cause I don't know
you.If people want to really know about Iraq, all the info
about peak oil and changing from dollars to euros is
plain to see on various websites.

Have you noticed the differences in answers from Brits and Yanks. Interesting huh.
2 british ex soldiers and a couple of others saying that you're entitled to your opinion and to believe what you believe and leave the job to those who want to do it.

The Americans are automatically assuming you're American (you mentioned Bush see) and telling you if you're not prepared to beat the s.hit out of whoever the government tells you to then you're not welcome in their country, as you must be a coward rather than objector.

And yet they still insist they're not a Nation of gung- ho morons with itchy trigger fingers. No of course they're not!!!!

If you support democracy in your country then by that very token you must respect the wishes of your chosen leader.
If you do not , then you are defeating the wholepoint of democracy, which is not something you can switch on and off when you see fit.
If an army is at full strength ,it will be more likely to succeed and with less casualties than the one at half strength.
In this way, refusing to fight can be considered to be jeopordising the lives of your fellow countrymen.
Your vote is the only way out. That is why it is so important that we use our vote.
Anyone could feign consciencous objection as a reason to avoid the draft.

Im afraid that you must bite the bullet(excuse the pun)
On a personal note, not everyone thinks that bush is an idiot, there are many people who respect his objectives and the will to carry them out unwaveringly.

Sounds as though you would be a concientious objector. If you are, you can still be sent to Iraq, but in a job where you are a non combatant.

No, I wouldn't be proud of you at all. You wouldn't be fighting because "Bush is in office," you'd be fighting to protect the rights of all Americans. I don't agree with how the war started but something did have to be done.

P.S. To all the people saying that those of us who have never served shouldn't be answering this question: If I was drafted I wouldn't run the other way. I wouldn't VOLUNTEER to go to war, I am a wife and mother, but if it took me fighting to save this country for my children you can bet your a** that I would go. Just because I don't agree with HOW this war started, and what we were told about it, doesn't mean that I don't have respect for and that I don't support our troops. Furthermore, if we hadn't fought back after 9/11 this war still would have happened but it would have been in my backyard and while I DON'T want anymore people to die, I would rather have it be on someone elses soil.

Anyone who is not willing to fight for the rights of the people in this country doesn't deserve to HAVE those rights!

First of all, if you got drafted, you wouldn't be putting yourself up to die. That's contradictory.

Secondly, NO. I would not be proud of you. If you enjoy having the freedom to slam the government in this country, you should be willing to fight for that right.

A man who will not back his country no matter what , Gives up the right to call himself a citizen , and i would be ashamed of such a man . If everybody opted out because they didn't like a situation we would be a sitting duck for every lunatic with ambitions

I am not proud of cowards. Nor am I proud of ignorant fools who know nothing about our president and war. Do a little research and stop the ignorance. Knowledge is power.
