I've flown into BKK about 20 times and my next trip will be soon, I'm thinking the flight will go into the new airport. Wondering what it is like, has anyone come and gone there yet? Is the airport tax still 500 Bht? How far to Sukumvit from there?

Visited Bangkok this month. It's a clean and beautiful airport, much more well organized than Dong Muan. Lighting is appropriate (not dark like old one), there is no smell which reminds you you are on Thai soil. Toilets are improving, so do not worry. Best thing is passport control on arrival. It took only a few minutes, and baggage came out quite quickly. Only downside is its long very long isles to/from boarding area. I suggest not take too heavy carry ons with you. Above all, it is a good international airport.....though I do very much miss dark and smelly Dong Muan.

It's a nightmare. Stuck out east of Bangkok about 40 kilometers from Nana, flashy, made to begin your stay in the "Land of Smiles" by ripping you off. Avoid the touts and taxis (but you know this) and take the Airport bus into town. You've been here many times and I assume you know about the airport busses: still the number 3 to get to Sukhumvit. But, hey, mai pen rai...

Big, clean efficient and I think beautifull. I have never had the opportunity to visit the old one, but this one is nice.

Approx half hor from Sukhumvit (Meter Taxi approx 300 Baht).

Use it, I enjoyed it.
