Thats funny, my husband had a cat like that when he was young, it is just a personality thing.

Cats have very sensitive hearing. I had a cat that used to come up and softly bite my cheek or nose whenever I whistled!!! Like she was saying "knock it off!!!". Maybe your cat is doing the same thing. Either she thinks you are calling to her, or she has noticed that when you yell, if she jumps into your arms, you stop (and so her ears stop hurting!).

Cats are very smart and quickly learn conditioned responses.

Do you notice her responding to you at all when you speak quietly? Does she look at you or turn/swivel her ears? I'd need more info but it sounds like she's kinda deaf and you raising your voice is the only time she hears you and thus acts like you're calling her.
Or maybe it's just one of those Quirks that your cat has. My cat will come from anywhere if I whistle a tune, even though i'm just doing it absentmindedly.

Oh, that's really cute. I have no idea why, however.
