Smacking the offender around.

Cats generally shun the rigidity of Law and Order per se. They are free-wheeling, swashbuckling dudes and dudettes of the animal world. Typically, they learn what is right and wrong from their parents and by observing the behavior of other cats. Sometimes this a mistake, depending on the habits of the parents. Unfortunately, if a kitten is brought up watching it's parents come home every night all stoned out on catnip, and reeking of cardboard scratching posts, then they too are likely to end up doing the same...or *cringe* worse yet, getting stoned out on catnip-impregnated cardboard scratching posts!!!!

Only with the higher-consciousness that comes with advanced age do cats begin to gather in little "kitty cities" and start organizing small police forces (sometimes referred to as "P*ssy Possies") and start laying down behavioral guidelines for the common good of the kitty conclave. Most times these guidelines are outlined and become law through a common, and relatively sophisticated series of Cat Votes, or "Refpurrrendums", in which cats vote yeah or no based on whether or not they bring a dead mouse, fly, or spider and place it on the "yes" pile at the voting place. "No" votes are registered simply by the lifting of a leg and a thorough spraying of a designated "no" cat in the precinct.

Oh my! I have this 20 year old orange tabby male. He is so affectionate and a real love.

When the young guys (cats) get too rowdy, or decide to argue, he will go flying over to where they are and pound the floor three times with his front paw. Almost like a Daddy slapping his hand on the table and saying, "Enough". It's the funniest thing.

The ruckus stops immediately and he never lays a paw on either of the offenders.

The cat police.

Actually only humans have laws or public order. Cats don't need these things - they are animals and don't commit crimes or riot. They are nice like that.
