44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues[b] and praising God.

Then Peter said, 47"Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have." 48So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
To answer your question: Peter was moved by the holy spirit to order the baptism.

Acts 10:47-48
47 "Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?" 48 And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days.

Peter's "command" reflects what Jesus said to do.
Matthew 28:19-20
19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Nothing new here.

God spoke to Peter and told him not to call anyone unclean that he has called clean.
Then Peter was asked to go the the house of Cornelius, who was not a Jew and was therefore seen as unclean.
Peter related what God told him to this situation and deceided that God wanted him to go see Cornelius.
After preaching Christ to the Gentiles they accepted Christ and were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

The answer is in the text. Be not confused, however....the phrase in the passage "in the name of the Lord" meant "by the power of the Lord (Jesus)" to distinguish it from cultic or Jewish or even John's Baptism. Rest assured, Peter used the proper Baptismal formula: "In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

It is no indication of Jesus Only Baptism. Acts has three Different Formulas. But Jesus Himself said:"....in The Name of The Father; in The Name of The Son; in The Name of The Holy Spirit." The majority accepts this formula. Argue all you want, my Brother. It is not important enough to affect someones Salvation.

8 things that don't save you that cornelius did: fasting, reputation, being devot, fearing God, giving alms, prayed always, just in eyes of God.
He still had to be baptised and they recieved the Holy Ghost with signs of speaking in tongues (acts 10:43-48)

John 3:5 EXCEPT a man be born of water and of the spirit he CANNOT enter the kingdom of God.

it's an unprovable cult myth story, basically false, and chock full of hundreds of errors.

it makes just as much sense to ask: Why did Peter Pan blow a kiss to Tinker Bell? What does that mean for all of our lives??

it's a fairy tale!
