If yes, how so? I have a newfoundland and he is our baby! Recently we had him boarded while we went out of town and I made him special treats and gave them instructions to feed them to him every day. They treated me like I was crazy! I also plan on getting him a Christmas present. Anyone else do this?

Next time you board your dog take him somewhere else. Of course you are not crazy for fixing those treats for him and yes, many many other people consider their dogs part of their family. Our three dogs are our "fur children" . We celebrate their birthdays and all the holidays and they get treats, presents too. Good for you! Have fun with your fur child and I am glad you own him!

Yes, My animals are all part of the family. If they weren't then most wouldn't be around right now. Our family has had a run of bad luck with our animals getting sick and everytime this happens we do everything that is possible to save them. For example my Black Lab Jack is 1 1/2 years old and he has already had heart surgery. Most vets we went to told us that he was going to die @ 6 months old and that we could do nothing. We found some others that told us he had a chance and coughed up about $10,000 to save him. Right now he isn't having any heart problems and is a REAL LAB again LOL (If you have a lab you'll know what i mean). People tell me every day that I'm crazy for what I did for him. But he's my baby JackJack and I could never just watch a family die without a fight.

My dog is a huge part of our family (my baby), he is very spoiled, he is a Border Collie and he is loyal to me. He gets christmas presents, birthday presents and a birthday cake too. He gets easter presents and bandannas for all holiday occassions. We had to give up the angel halo and the reindeer ears, he was not quit so thrilled with those-lol

ps-I work at a boarding kennel, and I would never even consider making someone feel "crazy" when they brought in special treats etc. for dogs or cats.

Happy and Healthy Holidays to you and your dog!!

YES! I just got a puppy and he is everything to me. I have also have a nephew puppy, I don't refer to him as that, but my mom does refer to him as her grandpuppy! So you're not alone in the world of people treating their pets like family. I do by my brother's dog christmas presents. And funny how he always ends up loving those toys the most!

Our dog is very much a part of the family. Our children asked how their little brother was doing, and if he was coming with us on our visit.
One son's dog we call my Grandson, and he even comes and visits. stayed a week once, and was treated as a family member that he was. When we talk on messenger, with web-cam, he comes to see us and we talk to him to. They just simply, become a part of your lives, and enhance life. When they are gone, they are mourned, as any member that we loose. Not as deeply as a human, but a great deal.. We still talk of past pets with fond memories, and with a sense of loss. We ALWAYS give doggie presents at Christma.

I have a 4 month old Bichonpoo. She is definitely a MAJOR part of my family. I treat her like a little baby. But I make sure she gets discipline when she needs it. I just ordered her Hanukkah presents via the net. I have to make a big deal of her first Hanukkah.

Why have a dog if they aren't part of the family?! Christmas, Birthdays etc., are all celebrated with doggy treats and doggy cakes.
Wherever you took your dog while you were away is obviously only in if for the money.

Yes, all of my pets are part of my family. Yes, I get them all a little something for Xmas: a toy, a special treat, something. To me they are like my children. They give so much to my life, such joy and love, how could I not try to do the same for them?

I have a 14 yr old shih tzu that we treat the same way. My husband and I are mommy and daddy to him. When we board him, his quilt and chewies and medications go with him. The people at our kennel encourage the personal touch. I hope you are able to find a better kennel for next time with more sensitive help.
