First step is to contact the pc manufacturer and see if you can get one there. If not, you'll need your windows product key. If you don't have your product key, download winkey finder from the internet on the link below which will give you that information. You can then borrow a copy from a friend and use your own product key, which makes it legal.
Before you repair install windows, or reinstall, you need to read the article at the link shown below.
If you reinstall you'll need to back up your drivers using a program dgt.exe. If you can't find it online, email me with your yahoo nick and I'll send you a copy over messenger.

Usually if something is pre-loaded you usually get the discs to go with it just in case you lose everything. I have all the discs I require to restore my computer if it crashed.

Have you tried restoring your computer to an earlier time. If you can remember when you lost your XP then you can re-set your computer to that time.

You can also re-set your computer to its original boxed condition.

If none of this works phone who ever you got the computer from. There is bound to be some help line number that came along with the packaging.

Check with the manufacturer of the PC. Often they put hidden partitions on the hard drive and store the factory image there. At that point there is usually a way to access a restore program through bios to install from that partition. If the hard drive completely died, you may have to contact them for recovery discs for your system but usually you will need to pay a fee for those. If that doesnt work, you'll have to buy a retail version of the operating system. Do not buy an OEM version as that ties itself to the hardware, so if you switch PC's it won't work on another.

As one of the other users has said, use Recovery Console or your equivalent. On my Advent, its located in the Program Group. This will allow you to simply Roll Back, To do a Non-Destructive Reinstall (No Reformat) and a Destructive Reinstall (Quick Format and Full Format). If you use the latter option, you will loose Data, so it is a last resort. I had to use it, after a Pinnacle USB TV Card driver damaged my copy of XP Media Edition.

if you system is an hp tap F10. that will get you into recovery consol. Check your documentation that came with the system. Some Dells come with a recovery partition. Others come with none, and no CDs. If you need the CDs contact the maker of your pc and request them. They may charge you $10-50 but it's worth it in the long run.

If you made a recovery disk, as the instructions said, you would put that in and it would all happen easily.

Assuming you did not then call the manufacturer on their 800 number and ask how. They can provide a CD.

You should have a "Restore" disk or something similar.

Other than that you can get a copy of Windows from a local shop or on eBay.
