I enjoy these answers...well I myself am Canadian, born and bred and the answer to your question isn't simple..there are many answers. Having a boyfriend who lives in the States only makes it more evident. Reasons for coming to Canada include the obvious: free healthcare, lower crime rate, ability for gays and lesbians to marry, social assitance (which may misuse..but thats another story!), hockey, beer (k those are stereotypes but honestly we have the best of those). The not so obvious answers are we are very multicultural, especially Toronto where I am from, we are nicer, do not interfere in many global political issues, great economy to do business in and high standard of living. Some people would sum up the question in this simple answer: because we are not the States!

Better living conditionswith a cleaner enviroment, better jobs opportunities, good all round education, health care, lower crime rates the list goes on. My brother a schoolteacher and his wife and two children are moving there. I shall hopefully be going there when I finish my Civil Engineering Degree and sell our house in the United Kingdom.

to escape from any problems in their own country or any restrictions they have that we do not. we are a very rich country and poorer people wan the same opportunities here than they can get elsewhere. it's hard to find jobs in a poor country and education is hard too. freedom and opportunity and just being able to go. there's millions of reasons and each varies from person to person
