An egg in the basket, or egg/eggs in a basket, is a fried egg cooked within the confines of a piece of toast whose center has been removed.
Preparation typically begins by cutting a circular hole in the center of a piece of bread with a cookie cutter or upside down glass. The bread is then fried in a pan with butter, margarine or cooking oil. When browned satisfactorily, the egg is cracked into the "basket" cut into the toast. The egg is then fried to the desired consistency. When eaten, the bread and egg yolk mix readily, giving this egg dish its special quality.

Pretty easy really. Take a piece of lightly toasted bread, place a glass on the bread and push down to make a circular hole in the middle of the slice. Butter or oil up your frying pan, place the bread in when the fat is hot and crack an egg into the hole in the bread. Cover the pan so the egg gets properly cooked and voila you have eggie in the basket. Enjoy!

Mine is simple and from way back in my fam, it may be diff from yours.
One large slice of toast, thicker the better. Butter on both sides or dip in egg wash. cut a hole in the middle about the size of a tablespoon. Fry the bread on one side and turn. Crack the egg open and drop in the hole. Let the egg cook for a couple minutes and when the bottom is semi set, flip the egg in the bread and cook until done to taste, easy is best. I splash hot sauce on mine. Mmmm.

The dish that 'eyescapes' gave you is called "Hole in One". I believe this is the one you're asking for...
"Saucy Baked Eggs in Toast Cups" - 8 servings
8 Toast Cups (below)
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can condensed cream of chicken soup
1/3 cup light cream
1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
2 tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
8 eggs
1) Prepare Toast Cups. In 2-quart saucepan, combine soup, cream and cheeses; mix well. Over medium-low heat, heat until cheese melts, stirring occasionally.
2) Break one egg into each Toast Cup in custard cup; spoon sauce over egg. Sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese.
3) Bake at 350* - 15 minutes or until eggs are desired doneness.
TOAST CUPS: Trim crusts from 8 thin slices white bread; butter one side of each slice. Press slices, buttered-side down, into 6-ounce custard cups. Bake at 350* - 10 minutes or until golden.

Melt butter in your skillet. Take a peice of bread and tear a hole in the middle appx. 1-2 inches (large enough to fit the yolk) Put the bread in the hot skillet with butter. Crack your egg and put atop the toast with the yolk sitting in the hole. Cook a bit and then flip. With the yolk still soft...put on your plate and enjoy! We put a peice of cheese on ours!!
