OK, we all know that there are about a billion Christians and Atheists out here on yahoo answers,(how could we not know with all the posting!) but how many of us practitce alternative religions/belief systems? I think it will be surprising to see that more people than you think believe in non-mainstream religions. d
Don't be afraid...speak up and be heard.
I practice hoodoo (not a religion) and New Orleans Voodoo (a religion that includes a belief of God and the power of the saints and the dead ancestors). I have a small altar at home, a supply of herbs, oils, washes, colored candles, a horseshoe, Florida Water, and offerings to Marie Leveaux and my past relatives. My husband is Lutheran, but he understand my practice and encourages me to be myself.
What is your story?
And, please, no bad mouth comments from the Christian/Atheist power posters please.

i am a pagan. not wiccan, although i believe a lot of the same things.
there is no official name for my "religion". i'm kind of eclectic. i take different things from various religions and make them my own.
i believe in karma, but not in the same way the eastern religions do. everything that we do comes back to us. kind of a cause and effect thing.
that is why i follow the wiccan creed of "do as you will as it harms none", but i add including yourself and the earth.
i believe that you can harness the vast amounts of energy in the universe using "spells". which is really just using symbolism to focus your will.
some of the things i believe are almost like memories or echoes of things that i've known before. i see something or hear something and i know that that is the way it is supposed to be.
i also have a supply of oils, herbs, and colored candles. i use runes and other things to make what ever i'm doing as personal as possible.
like you my husband doesn't follow the same belief system that i do, but he's learned to live with it.
i follow the goddess. he was raised pentecostal. we couldn't be more different on this.
i don't mind sharing. i hope this is kind of what you were looking for.
blessed be

I am a Wiccan Witch, with a healthy belief in all things natural, including the God and Goddess. I too, have an altar with candles, herbs and stones, and the usual altar equiptment for most Wiccans. I also have a horseshoe that I have had for years. I went to Florida last year, but we did not visit the beach, so I was unable to get any sea water which I really wanted to do!
My family are a mixture of things, from Jewish, Irish Catholic, Muslim, Atheist, C of E, and me, Wiccan.
My partner is Atheist, but he doesn't mind what I do. Probably thinks I'm a nutter, but I don't care!

I am a Chaos Magician and Occultist. Well, I don't really know how to label myself anymore. I borrow things from any religion but lean towards the left hand paths (paths with no rules or morals). I don't believe in Gods but I'm not atheistic (I believe in them sometimes and other times not). Chaos Magic is about accepting that anything is possible. I guess when it comes down to religion, I am actually anti-religious and believe most religions are oppressive, but I do not follow the belief of materialism since that is just as oppresive as religion (maybe even more). There is more to this place than just the visible physical layer. Some people believe that Chaos Magic is black magick but in fact we use white magic too. Chaos is not confined by black or white, we use all the colours of the rainbow.

I originally was a Catholic when I was 10 ,then I started to question the bible and the contradictory teachings. As a result of that , I became an atheist with no religion for a year. Then I discoverd buddhisim so i became buddhist till I was 13. I then realized that modern satanism was the best religion for me when I was fourteen. I have been a Satanist all along.

I practice Daemonolatry, which is the worship of Daemons (Divine Intelligences, Replete with Wisdom). The core of my belief system is Hermetic. I also practice magick in conjunction with my spiritual beliefs. I, too, keep an altar in the house. My husband is an Atheist, but he likes the fact that my religious beliefs coincide with science and that I actually worship nature to some extent.

I am a Celtic Reconstructionist (CR). I am a polytheist and most of my deities are Gaulish. Offerings, prayer and song are a large part of my practices. Honor and hospitality are important virtues. I find inspiration through both meditation and academic study of the peoples who once worshiped my deities. My husband also follows a CR path but his deities are mostly Irish.

Buddhist with a respect for all beliefs. A healthy respect for hoodoo and Voodoo. There are a lot of metaphysical element s to my beliefs too such as aura reading, psychic abilities, medium-ship and healing.
I was a Christian and carry elements of that with me too.
