Viruses - what you might catch this flu season is not the same as the "parent virus" - it evolved.

It's not a matter of what evidence supports it.

Evolution is the scientific theory that at present most accurately explains all the data (i.e. facts) that scientist find in nature. Whenever another theory can do the same thing Evolution does, and more, it will automatically replace it.

Creationism/Intelligent Design work the other way around; they start with a theory (non-scientific, mind you) and then try to find evidence.

Finally, it's wrong to speak of "true" here. Evolution isn't necessarily exactly how it happened, but as far as we know, it is. Evolution is useful, that's the best we could ever hope for. Whenever we find a contradiction with nature (as opposed to a 'hole', which is simply a gap we haven't yet been able to fill), we'll know we need a new theory.

To the person who says that evolution is only a theory, you have no idea what a theory is.

Did you know gravity is only a theory?
Do you not believe in gravity because it is only a theory.

Did you know that plate tectonics is only a theory?
Do you not believe in plate tectonics because it is only a theory.

Did you know that the idea that matter is composed of atoms is only a theory?
Do you not believe in atoms because it is only a theory.

Ok then, go and read what a theory is and then learn that to science theory and fact are sometimes the same thing.

As for evidence of evolution, take a geology course and a biology course and pay attention. Of course you already know of the evidence, you have chosen to ignore it. Fossils and the rock strata are more than enough evidence. There is no other explanation with as much evidence as evolution. However, I am including the wiki link, lots of good stuff there.

Lets not go back to the dark ages.

The entire fossil record. The overwhelming similarity between chimps and humans. And for the people who continue to insist that evolution can't happen or can't produce complexity, I direct you all here:

For a copy of the primate family tree, go here:

For a good primer on how evolution works:

If you have a specific question, ask me or the yahoo community and we will be happy to explain and debunk any creationist arguments, although if you really want to know all the evidence you should take a college-level course on the subject.

Alot of the scientific evidence is on here, be sure to check out the index to creationist claims, which deals with common creationist claims citing peer reviewed papers (something you'll never find on things like Answers in Genesis because their are hardly any creationist peer reviewed research).

Also try and read "Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin, "The Selfish Gene" and "The Extended Phenotype" by Richard Dawkins (if you're interested more in the argument from design then read "the Blind Watchmaker" also by Dawkins). Despite his almost militant atheism, Dawkins is probably one of the most qualified people alive to talk on the subject so shouldn't just be dismissed for his religious beliefs.

Isn't it a bit impertinent to ask a question here which requires a textbook to answer you?

Try getting off your computer and reading some books - that's the proper way to learn stuff. David Oldroyd's Darwinian Impacts won't hurt, and obviously The Selfish Gene and The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins. Come back and give us a book report when you're done.

Start here. Then look around and notice how the fossil record seems to present a pattern of development from simple toward more complex organisms. Notice, for example, how much birds REALLY do resemble dinosaurs. Then start asking your own questions.

oh yeah, there's lots of evidence for evolution. You see, it was raining on the rocks for millions of years and then there was soup and then there was life. then over millions and millions of years, these protozoa grew into people. yeah, sure. gimme a break. either we are nothing but animals that grew from a rock, or we were created by a loving God for a specific purpose. Take your pick.

there isnt any peaple just believe that there is did you know that this scientist found a bone of a monkey and fond another one and said it mached but what he dosent say is that he found it 40 miles away and 100 feet in the ground from the other one so this proves that he tried to lie to make us believe in evolution

That we have DNA, that DNA codes for traits, that DNA is inherited by our offspring, that there can be mutations or changes in DNA also inherited by our offspring, that those changes can code for beneficial traits, that beneficial traits become predominant in a population because of natural selection
