My black lab/chow dog is about 10 years old, and yesterday I noticed him shaking all over, it is not cold outside or anything either. And now he is laying around all day, and when he does get up, he limps, and whines, and wants to come inside, which he usually hates. what could be wrong with him?

Just like humans animals can get arthritis too he is sore and stiff you should consider taking him to the vet for some arthritis meds I had a lab/chow and she had the same problem we took her to the vet and she lived to be 18 almost 19 so take care of the old guy.

The same thing happens to my older dog.....she shakes when something scares her a lot. It is interesting, though, because now that she is older, things scare her that never scared her in the past. Anyway, your dog is geriatric, so he is more sensitive to loud noises, etc. When he is shaking, just bring him inside and put him in a quiet room. This helps a ton, in my experience.
Of course, other things could be wrong, but since you are describing limping, shaking, and whining, I'd say it is most likely that he got scared by something. Plus, I'm sure he has arthritis by now since he is a geriatric large breed dog.

Please take him to a vet. A friend of mine had a black lab, around the same age as yours, and he would do the same thing. He got medication for the problem from the vet. Dogs also get epilepsy, sometimes at an older age. Arthritis also could be a problem or hip dysplasia. But you need a vets opinion and guidance, so I urge you to take him.

My parents dog did that when he hit the age of 13. They found he had cancer in his foot and he was also diabetic and was experiencing kidney failure. These things came on much later in his life, sadly my mom and dad put him down. You just need to go to a vet. It could be anything. He could be constipated for all you know and the shakes are from pain!

You have a large breed dog that is 10 so that makes him a senior. Any time there is a change in behaviour with a senior dog, it is time to make a trip to the vet and please don't wait. Sometimes the difference in whether we have them for a couple more years or only a couple of months is dependent on how long we waited before getting them to the vet.

Your dog could have a bacterial/yeast ear infection. My dog Dio had one and he had the same symptoms. The vet will give your dog an antibiotic, and special ear cleansers. Most over the counter ear cleaners are non drying. What this means is that you have to dry the dogs ear out after application. If the ear canal stays wet, then you are doing your poor dog more harm than good by putting the drops in her ears. Make sure your drops are drying drops. You also want to take a cotton ball and wipe any excess gunk out of the immediate inside of her ear if she will let you. Trust me; your dog will love it. Dio lets out what I like to call the "Oh Yeah, that feels soo good" groan after I put the drops in and rub his ear canal for a few seconds. Its funny, and it shows that the vets treatment did the trick. I hope this helps you and your dog.

Could have a joint problem, and the shaking can be a result of pain. Let your dog inside, and give him a comfortable place to lay. Consult a vet.

It's possible he is having a mild seizure. Be sure to take him to the vet. This is nothing to mess with, especially since he is older.
