Hmmm. Excellent question. Many people don't want to appear to condone what the BYB is doing by offering advice. I've replied to "help me with my new litter i dont no what to do!!!!!!!!" responses with advice and ended them with "And then PLEASE spay your b*tch", but I think that because we see it so often in this forum, you just get tired of doing that.
I think also that many people are annoyed because there is a TON of information on whelping/rearing puppies on the web, and yet whining about it in public is still easier than a google search.
More people researching themselves = less we have to see of their ignorance = less frustrated we become.
Conversely,
More ignorant people begging for help = overwhelming amount of whining from idiots = more frustration = bitterness toward anyone who tries to help them.
Not saying it's helpful or useful -- just human nature.
I'm not sure that NO ONE would give them info...hopefully silence here would drive them to actually look this stuff up on their own or (*gasp!*) call their vet.
My take, anyway.

I had a person post awhile back asking for help about puppies, and what she should do about a pregnant dog - needless to say the responders pounced on her, called her names (ignorant, morons...byb...sound familiar??)
Anyway - someone had dumped this dog on her step and she was just looking for a bit of friendly advise, so be careful what you assume, it's not always what you think it might be.
Not all breeders are bad, reputable breeders can be found, if all the dogs in the world were fixed, within 20 yrs there would be no more dogs - now that is a bit over the top isn't it?
There are people that have show dogs, competition dogs, companion, search and rescue, K9 police dogs, service dogs, and some that just want a specific breed.
I understand the need for spaying and neutering, and agree there are a lot of people out there that should have their dogs fixed, some people should not have pets at all.
But don't generalize and don't judge others before you know everything involved.

I have to disagree with people that said it's the asker. I don't have enough points to give thumbs down so obviously someone else is doing it. A lot of times, I'll see disrespectful answers or silly answers get thumbs down. Sometimes, I see awesome, respectful answers get td's and wonder why? Oh btw, I pick the person that answered my question with the most detail (despite what the answer was). This means I'll choose the person that answered the question I ASKED, answered it respectfully, and answered it by going into detail such as giving an example. I don't really care if they got td's or not. Some people are just silly.

I don't know about you, but I know I have gotten some thumbs-down ratings that have nothing to do with the way I answered my question, but it was from somebody who had a beef with me, or didn't agree with me about something else, so they give me a thumbs-down just to be vindictive.
If that doesn't apply to you, and you can honestly say that you haven't teed anyone off, then I am surprised, too, that they would give you a thumbs-down when you are simply trying to give advice on how to give the pups a good home. The mistake has been made, the important thing is to make sure the puppies end up loved and wanted.

Not sure what your statement is pertaining to, must be from an earlier post? Anyway, when a BYB is selling pups I always discourage to buy them. Sure, the pups need a better home and need to be saved, but buying from BYB also encourages them to breed more. When a BYB has a hard time getting rid of their pups, they won't be as eager to breed the dog so soon again.
I'm a BIG thumbs down to BYB!!

I think they should be given advice on how to care for the puppies. As well as the link to http://www.friendsofanimals.org for low cost spay/neuter certificates they can use at their local vet.
I do not think, however, that people should give advice on how to home the litter that has been born. This will only make things easier for the byb, and then they will have no reason to stop breeding.
If someone is giving advice on how to care for puppies, that is completely commendable. Hopefully, the byb will take that advice to heart and keep the pups with their mom long enough, vaccinate, socialize, and nourish them well.

Maybe, just maybe, the "morons" as you called them will stop doing it. Do ya think??
When I give a thumbs up or down I still give an honest answer. I just don't agree with the person that asked the question.

I agree. Even though I'd like to strangle them, the fact remains that the puppies are here (or on the way), and if we give the idiot good advice then maybe these pups will have a better start in life.

First off there is a difference between giving a question a thumbs down and giving an answer a thumbs down.
Giving a question a thumbs down is a opinion.
DO NOT GIVE A THUMBS DOWN TO AN ANSWER BECAUSE YOU DISAGREE WITH THE PERSONS OPINION!!!! Give a thumbs down to an answer when the information is incorrect.
That said, I'm neutral on how anyone answers those kind of questions,,, I don't care,,,, (don't answer the questions either)

I am so with you on this. When I see someone trying to give legitimate advice, I give them a "thumbs up" rating, unless they're being blatantly rude. In truth, I only give "thumbs down" ratings on the spam/advertising posts, a horribly incorrect answer, or for utter rudeness.
