I recently read that boder collies are extremely intelligent.

Do you think there is a possibility that they could be more intelligent than some severly retarded humans?

I am writing a paper for my 8th grade biology class. Thank you.

At 1st I thought this was just a nasty question, but I see what you are asking now, experts say that the border Collie's I.Q is about 65-70 this is very low for a Human but very high for a Dog!. If you take an I.Q of 100 as being Average, 50-75 is an Moron, 25-50 is a Cretin and below 25 is an Imbecile. That makes a Border Collie a Moron, so yes a Border Collie is more intelligent than some humans./

Frankly, having owned both a border collie (supposedly the smartest dog) and an afghan hound (supposedly the dumbest), I'd have to say that the system used for rating is out to lunch. The border collie is certainly more TRAINABLE, but the afghan could think rings around her any day. Border collies are willing to do the same thing over and over again, and do busywork, just because you ask them too. Afghan hounds will humor you for a little while, but they quickly get bored with repetitive work and then demand that you either entertain them or compensate them properly.

To actually be able to do a research paper on this type of question you would have to be able to rate their intelligence on a scale as compared to a human. I don't believe that such a scale exists and given that such a scale is unavailable, I think you might have to look for a different topic for your paper. You might want to rate the types of intelligence in breeds of dogs go from there...
Good luck with your paper!

8th grade? explains the other Q posts you made...

Define intelligence, then apply the traits you find about border collies and the severely mentally handicap (I believe that's the pc term) that meet the definition. good luck!
