I really don't like him. He runs his mouth and disrespects other fighters then comes in the ring looking like the Michelin Tire Man. I wish somebody would knock this guy out and shut his mouth. He's so rude at the press conferences and he thinks he's the greatest fighter ever. He talked all that junk about Roy Jones and then got his butt kicked! I just don't like boxers that disrespect other boxers like that. I hope somebody knocks some class into him. I admit he's a talented boxer but i just don't like him.

To belchmaster, Well, Toney threatened to kill Jackie Kallen, his former manager, was that part of a fight promotion? And i care because this is a boxing Q&A forum and i like a lot of the guys answers about boxing. if you are being bothered in some way, then you shouldn't participate. Plain and simple.

He's fat. He's a bloated heavyweight. And yeah, sometimes I find him disrespectful.

I like James Toney as a fighter but i too can do without the antics. But that's how some fighters are. Most boxers come from rough backgrounds and Toney has a lot of anger in him from his father leaving him at an early age. I train some fighters that are former gang members and they too have a lot of anger issues but i try to teach them to channel their rage in a positive way. But in Toney's defense, i know a guy that met and spent time with him in Detroit and said he's actually a cool dude when you get to know him and that he just gets a little crazy to get himself up for a fight. But as a fight fan, i appreciate Toney's skills and his accomplishments.

I can understand your dislike for "Lights Out" and for the most part your argument is solid. In interviews, Toney admits that his brash, tough talk is apart of his fight preparation. Its not uncommon when you look at boxing's long history.

But, I submit to you take a second to get a chance to view the post fight interview with Toney after he defeated Evander Holyfield. He goes off on Jim Gray for bad mouthing Evander, and defends Holyfield against Gray's sarcastic attempts at belittling the fallen warrior. It was great to see Toney showing respect to Evander even after he beat him. It just shows how complex James Toney can be.

The threat to Jackie K did happen but look at the situation that led up to it. Toney was just beaten by Roy Jones and he was pissed. Not to say that is an excuse to threaten but no one knows except Jackie and James what was said between the two that led to the death threat. However, if Jackie was so afraid of James Toney why did she reunite with him taking him to his Title win against Jirov??

You see its all he said she said. Actions speak volumes. The relationship between Toney and Jackie is the basis for an up and coming Meg Ryan film. So basically all I can suggest is don't take all the stuff you hear to heart often its part of the hype. Later.

If Toney would just stayt in shape, he would be a champion. He has won titles in the middleweight and cruiserweight divisions. Will he hold a heavyweight title? Remains to be seen, but the three champs look beatable.

He is a good fighter. Needs to work on coming into a fight in shape, but other than that he is great. Fast, strong, and fearless.

sorry I bothered obviously you know nothing about promotion and how it pertains to boxing. why do you even care what i or any other guy thinks about James Toney, one of the best pound for pound fighters of his or any era in the sport.

i like JT!

intentionally rude or not, i think he's funny and brings comic drama.

he was an awesome middleweight, but right now i think of him as more of a " What if " kind of boxer, that seems to amaze me how he can hang in there with the big boys (so far).
