I am not sure what you mean by an opposing digit. Most woodpeckers have 2 toes forward and 2 backwards, which is called zygodactyl. A few species have only 3 toes. Parrots are also zygodactyl but I dont think of them as climbing the sides of trees. Other birds that do climb trees are Creepers and Nuthatches, but they are passerines, which have 3 toes forward and one back.

Foot structure of a woodpecker is 2 toes in the front 2 in the back. Many birds only have 1 opposing digit this however does not mean they can/can't land on the side of a tree; for example a chickadee with 3 toes in the front and 1 in the back can land on the side of a tree, but a pheasant whith the same toe pattern cannot. However other species with the 2 and 2 toes are not able to land on sides trees, osprey (it can rotate a toe) and owls for example have this pattern but the primary function is catching prey, however some owls may cling on to the side of trees for short durations.

The Brown Creeper and the Nuthatch can both stand on the sides of trees.
