Black Tea bags steeped in a couple of cups of hot water so that it's really concentrated. Apply to your hair or, better yet, plug the bathroom sink, fill with the tea and immerse your hair in it for 10 minutes.

I was in your same boat. I bought and used John Freida's Luminous Glaze. It does darken your hair, but not drastically. You wash and condition in the shower and then put this on for 3 minutes. I love it because it does do a little bit of darkening without being too drastic and it makes your hair shinny and soft.

Many years ago, Nestle's (not the chocolate drink people) marketed a rinse-in hair coloring. My mother used it. It came in a powder form, was strictly temporary and had to be re-applied after each shampoo. I haven't seen it in ages, and I doubt that it's still out there. But it wouldn't hurt to look for it at your local variety store.
It's still "dyeing" your hair, but it is easily reversible.

Use a temporary hair color. It washes out after about 5-6 washes. Good way to test out a color.

Aveda (expensive) and John Frieda (drugstore) are brands that have color in their shampoos and conditioners. They make it for blond, brown, black and red.

Since the wet look is back in, hair
gels will do it.
Wet hair always looks darker.
Ask at your corner drugstore.
