Baptism means "immersion". It's the sign in good faith that we choose to follow Jesus. Some churches preach that salvation is void without baptism. I don't believe this is true. Baptism is a result of one's faith, but there's no magic water that saves your soul. it's the next step. it's like doing works. Works don't save you, but because of your salvations your works will manifest.

Baptism means to me what it has meant to Christians for 2,000 years - the divinely ordained holy sacrament through which one is born again of water and the Spirit, receiving God's grace and becoming His children, eligible to enter His kingdom. For adults it also means the washing away of every trace of sin, becoming a new creation in Christ. This is how all Christians viewed baptism for 1,500 years after Christ. Any other interpretation of baptism is a modern tradition of men.

Baptism is a ceremony that publicly demonstrates putting to death the "Old man" and the rasing of life of the "new man".
It is a beginning. It is the first step of obedience to the Lord.
When I first was baptized, I thought I would be able to live sinlessly. I now know that I need Christ every second of the day and that at his return is when I will be freed from my sinful self.

An immersion or sprinkling of water that signifies one's identification with a belief or cause. In Christianity it is the believer's identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection (Rom. 6:4-54). It is done in the name and authority (Acts 4:7) of Christ with the baptismal formula of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19). It does not save us (1 Pet. 3:21). However, it is our obligation, as believers, to receive it.

We call it believers baptism. John the baptist told us to repent and be baptized. Jesus was baptized and He had no sin. It is a show of faith, nothing more. We try to do and live the way Jesus did, which means getting baptized. Nothing happens when you get baptized. except you get wet. It doesn't wash away your sins. Jesus did that by dieing on the cross. The only way to be forgiven of our sins is to believe in Jesus. Believe that He died for your sins, past, present, and future. Ask for forgiveness.

Baptism is a way of showing the public that you have accepted Jesus as your personal savior and have been "born again" into his family...being baptised doesn't actually save you from your sins though.

Baptism in Jesus' Name is where you get your sins washed away. It is an integral part of the salvation experience. See Acts 2:38

It is an outward expression of our faith in God- once we believe in Him and are saved by his blood- repenting of sin and following Him- we should be baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Mark 16:16
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
-Baptism is not what is needed JUST for salvation- for it is only by believing that one is saved. But God calls us to be baptized afterward.

It is an outward sign of an inward work. It is identifying with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. To baptize literally means to bury. The verse that describes this is "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old is gone, the new has come."

On the one hand it is spiritual regeneration (i.e. spiritual baptism). On the other hand it's a physical symbol of what has taken place spiritually.
