You are allowed to make a copy of a legal purchase of software. I can make a copy of my Windows XP and keep it for safekeeping. Read the licensing. If I were in your case, which is probably "I want to try to install XP but I have a feeling that it may not work, therefore I need to be able to go back to Windows 2000". If that is the case and you are not trying to circumvent any licensing issues then I would make an image of the drive that is on the Vectra currently. Then install XP on the drive. Using Norton's Ghost 2003 you can image the current info on the drive and then restore it back if XP doesn't work out. Keep in mind though, you cannot install that image on another computer, that image is only useable on the Vectra. It's the same with all NT based Windows operating systems. The hardware is tied to the files in the OS and changing hardware is going to result in a big BSOD. So, making that image isn't going to violate anything - because it's only useable on that one system. Hope this helps!
