Offhand, I would say it's better not to risk it.
Microwave's are basically designed like farraday cages. a farraday cage is an room (or area) that is shilded from stray RF. Microwave doors are specifically designed to be a good shield from the microwaves, which is why you have the perforated screen in front of the glass.
while the unit itself shouldn't pose any health risks, there is the risk that the unit isn't containing microwaves as well and there are risks associated with stray microwaves; cancer, burns, frying your frontal lobe.
even with SOME leakage, as long as you're not standing in front with your nose to the glass, i'm sure you'd never notice a major problem.
they do make leakage detectors that you run around the microwave to detect leakage. http://www.testproducts.com/safecart/product_info.php?products_id=89 is a $12 one, they also sell other detectors.
However, it's better to be safe than sorry, microwaves have gotten much much cheaper, more efficient, and better quality than your 24 year old radar-range. I'd suggest just going out and purchasing another.

No. But honestly, it just feels wrong to have a microwave for 24 years. Even if it works, or maybe there might be no health risk, it just feels unnatural - it's like milking a cow for 24 years.

Check the seal around the door, does it have cracks or splits or holes. Is it still soft and pliant? If all the previous is ok, your microwave is probably safe!!

Change it soon as you can. It's not worth the risk particularly if you have never had the door seals replaced....they have to be worn by now.

Do you mean microwave? I can't believe it still works at all. Yes, throw it out and buy a new one. They are really cheap now.
